THERE IS VIOLIN ON MONDAY NEXT WEEK.

Many apologies for an incorrect message about violin on yesterday’s newsletter.
THERE IS VIOLIN ON MONDAY NEXT WEEK.
Pupils who usually have lessons on Weds PM will have theirs on Monday AM and those who have Monday PM normally will remain the same.
Sorry for the confusion.

Botanical Dissection and Illustration - A Tomorrow's Achievers G&T Masterclass

Some pupils from Sir Robert Hitcham's
and other Suffolk schools took part in a wonderful day of
botanical dissection and illustration.

"I enjoyed dissecting the flowers and finding out what was inside..."

"I have learnt how to concentrate and not rush my work"

"I liked drawing the flowers. Stephanie told us how to draw accurately"

"I learnt how to use watercolours properly. You only need to use a little dab of paint to make a mass of colour. You dab it on to the palette and add lots of water. You can make cool effects like bleeding -when 2 colours mix together. The colours chase each other"

The watercolours and pen and ink pictures of the flowers were stunning.

"I learnt how to use watercolours. They are messy but fun!"

The children enjoyed using pen and ink and perhaps got a little carried away.
Some of our tables now have a little pink tinge ....

"I learnt that it is very hard to paint by just looking at something
and that watercolours are great to use in botanical illustrations."

"We all learnt the special names for different parts of the flowers such as the sepal"

The children looked at some beautiful botanical illustrations on stamps
and then designed and painted their own stamps.
They were very eye catching.
Well done to everyone who took part in the day and a big thank you
to Stephanie for a very enjoyable and interesting masterclass.

New Lego Programming Kits in School

We have recently invested in some new equipment from Lego.
Each set can be turned into 18 different construction projects with moving parts.
The movements, sound effects and timings can be controlled by computer.
The children have to create an algorithm (set of coded instructions)on the laptop - which is linked via a USB cable to the lego.

The children in year 6 are learning how to create and program all 18 projects so that they can act as mentors to younger children. The plan is to introduce the construction and programming skills into the whole school.

NAMING YOUR CHILD’S BELONGINGS
It was apparent when the Lost Property box was cleared recently that there are many items of clothing or belongings that are not named.  If you have not named your child’s sweatshirt, shirts, trousers, skirts, coats, shoes or plimsolls etc then if they misplace them it is VERY UNLIKELY that they will get them back, as they all look the same!
PLEASE can we encourage you to CLEARLY name your child’s clothes, NOT just with initials; it needs to at least be a SURNAME, preferably with initial or first name too.
We have found lunchboxes, snack pots, trainers and lots more items that were unnamed and unclaimed at parents evening, so these are being taken to the local charity shop.
HAVE YOU GOT THE RIGHT COAT?
It has been brought to our attention that because items are un-named some of the children’s school coats have become mixed up.  Please can you check if your child is wearing their correct coat, if not then please see the class teacher.

FOUNDATION & KS1 CHRISTMAS PRODUCTION TICKETS
