Thank you Miss Berry!

Today we say goodbye to our wonderful Lollipop lady who has manned our Crossing Patrol on College Road so brilliantly over many years.

Miss Berry has been keeping the children safe crossing them to and from school every day, in all weathers and under difficult circumstances some days. We are so grateful to her for her dedication to helping everyone safely cross College Road.

We wish her every success as she leaves us.

Today in the KS2 assembly we presented her with a thank you bouquet of flowers and a hand made card from the children.

We are delighted to let parents know that Mrs Hill, one of our mums and Midday Supervisors, is currently being trained to take on this role, and we know the children will appreciate her help as they say hello & thank you when she sees them across the road.

Class MV Composition – Elegy to the Arctic

Yesterday, the children in Class MV composed their very own Elegy to the Arctic. They used a range of instruments including, thunder makers, boom-whackers, chimes, rain makers, drums, balafon and spiral xylophone. Together they produced a wonderful composition to pay tribute to the hostile and beautiful landscape of the Arctic.

We hope you enjoy listening…

French Day in Year 1

On Monday, Class JT and Class KB enjoyed an exciting day learning about France. They identified where the country was on the world map and learned about the French flag ‘Le drapeau tricolore.’

Whilst creating colourful rainbows, the children recited a song to learn the names of the colours in French.

In the afternoon the children enjoyed a French café tasting croissants, French bread, crepes and hot chocolate.

C'était une journée fantastique.

Class LH – French language day

I wonder if you can work out which song we learnt in class LH – “Tête, épaules, genoux, pieds” from the pictures……

Did you guess correctly?  “Heads shoulders knees and toes” – we all enjoyed learning this song and doing the actions.

Class LH also played a variety of games in PE using numbers up to 10 , learning about different colours and ended with a circle game of welcoming people to the group using French salutations.

To finish the day, the children built a Parisian landmark out of Lego – check out the ‘Arc de Triomphe’ and the ‘Eiffel Tower’.

Class MV Elegy to the Arctic Promo

In Music, the children have been exploring the work of Ludovico Einaudi by listening to his composition 'Elegy to the Arctic'. The children really enjoyed watching and listening to his work as an introduction to our topic this term - Frozen Kingdom. They then compiled a list of instruments they could use to compose our own Elegy for the Arctic.

Today, they have been practicing with a range of instruments and composing their work as a class. Here are some pictures from today’s lesson.

Next week, we will be recording our composition.

So watch this space…

Clever Class LH find some amazing adjectives!

Class LH ventured out to search and compare different micro-habitats within the woodland habitat in 'Robin Wood'.  We also had a task to find and use a variety of different adjectives to create noun phrases.  We discovered a range of little creatures living in the micro-habitats too which included slimy slugs, baby slugs, a frothy snail, black stag beetles, spiky centipedes, quick spiders, lazy crane fly (daddy long legs), racing ants and pretty ladybirds.  Some of the micro-habitats were damp and dark; others were dry and dark; others were light and moist.

We discovered a smooth egg shell on the rough grass and so our incredible class detectives looked up above it and were thrilled to see a pretty pigeon sitting in her delicate nest – another micro-habitat which was full of light but safely hidden amongst the soft leaves in the crown of the tree.

We also saw the three stages of a ladybird – we found the spiky, black lava on one green willow leaf and nearby on another wet willow leaf, we found an orange pupa.    We carried on looking and were able to find the adult ladybird with her familiar red wings and black spots.  It was so special seeing all three stages together.

We also found a really light-weight log and when we looked closely, we found lots of crumbly sawdust underneath it.  We worked out that a clever beetle would have been making the sawdust by eating the log.

We had a great time finding the micro-habitats and we were able to use a range of adjectives to make some fabulous noun phrases for description.

A "Tree -mendous" start to the topic

Year 2 started their new topic, "Enchanted Woodland",  by visiting the mere to identify the features of deciduous and evergreen trees and then to be tree detectives and find out the different types of trees around the mere.

Then, later on in the week, we used the tablets to find out what types of trees we have in our playground.  We used the tablets to read the QR codes which were on the trees.  With a leaf identification sheet, we worked out the six main trees on the playground.  We decided that the hornbeam and the crab apple were very similar but we looked really closely and we were able to work out the correct trees.

We mapped out the position of the trees using a key with the identification chart.

What a 'tree-mendous' start to our new topic!

Looking carefully at the leaves to identify the different types of trees.

Bikeability

Thanks once again to the Suffolk RoadSafe team for their excellent Bikeability training session to our pupils this week.

The first group of 12 children will complete their two days intensive training today, and we have two more groups of twelve taking part over the coming weeks.  Those Year 5/6 children who were not successful in gaining a place this term, will be able to take part in March 2022.

During the training the children learn how to look after their bicycles, spend time learning key cycling & indicating skills on the playground, spend a day and a half on the roads around the school in Framlingham.
By the end of the course, they aim to give the children confidence on the roads and to help them learn the skills needed to become safe cyclists.
