Children in need sale

School council and Eco council did an amazing job with the toy and book sale in aid of Children in Need.  We were grateful for the toys, books, jigsaws, boxed games, dressing up toys and soft toys which we received.

Thank you to everyone for your donations and for those of you bought toys and made donations to a very well worth cause. We raised £259.72.

Last year's Y6 School Councillors visit the Technology Centre

During the last academic year, the Year 5 and 6 school council members attended a meeting of the Framlingham Business Association at the Crown in Framlingham. They shared the inspiration behind the Climate for Justice artwork that had been displayed in the library the previous year. At that event, the students were invited to attend the following network meeting, which took place this past Wednesday at The Technology Centre.

Four Year 6 children, who had attended the previous meeting as Year 5s, returned to share their thoughts on climate change. They addressed the business owners and offered suggestions on sustainable practices, coming together to deliver a fantastic collaborative speech. We later learned that their message truly inspired some attendees. A few business owners approached us afterward, sharing how the children’s presentation motivated them to reduce plastic usage in their companies and explore more sustainable solutions. Another business owner discussed their ongoing project to convert energy from solar panels to heat 100 radiators: he showed us the app where you could see this happening.

Overall, the experience was incredibly valuable, providing the next generation with an important platform to share their ideas with current leaders, with the hope of making a real difference.

School Council visit the Framlingham Business Association

Today, some members of our School Council were invited to attend the Framlingham Business Association's networking meeting at The Crown. They had the exciting opportunity to share with the attendees the inspiration behind the artwork they created earlier in the academic year, centered around the theme of 'Climate for Justice.' The students from Key Stage 2 wrote persuasive letters to support this initiative, and the artwork is soon to be displayed in the library, where it will be showcased for the coming weeks. In addition, a virtual copy of the artwork will be featured in the local magazine.

During the meeting, the children shared the creative process and the driving force behind their work, highlighting the importance of addressing climate change and advocating for environmental justice. They spoke  about the need for Framlingham to take a leadership role in implementing climate initiatives, including promoting the use of electric cars and bikes within the community.

We are incredibly grateful to the Framlingham Business Association for hosting us and providing a platform for our students to voice their ideas and concerns about our planet’s future.

New cake sampling

A group of children, including School Council,  were invited to trial a new Cinnamon Swirl cake that Mrs Aldred wants to introduce to the menu.  All the children enjoyed it with glowing comments.  Key stage 2 worked out it was a cinnamon flavour and all said that they loved it .  Sebastian said he thought it was yummy; Bea  loved the icing and thought that there could be more; Rowan commented that it was delicious and Key stage 1 all thought it "so good".   It was certainly a success and Mrs Aldred is now adding it to the menu.

School Council help make new menu choices

Today we had two visitors from Quorn, Lizzy and Bobby. They came to demonstrate the importance of a healthy diet and how this can work in each of our diets. The school council absolutely loved tasting and learning about the different food groups and how food can play a big part of the environment as well as our body health. Obviously, Quorn is a vegetarian alternative protein to meat and the children learned about this.

The children from the School Council got involved in making Quorn sausage rolls and also helped with the making of the Quorn chicken chilli noodles. They both tasted delicious and shared these with the staff of the school.

The children were an asset to the school and came up with many interesting discussion points and talked about their own diet and food. SRH should be very proud of them, well done!

Masterchef in the making!

Taste Testers for the Chinese menu

Today, our fabulous Head Cook, Mrs. Aldred, baked a wonderful dessert to trial  in preparation for next week’s Chinese New Year inspired lunch. School Council were enlisted to act as taste testers- here are some of their thoughts on the banana and toffee cakes:

“Lovely texture!”

“This is really tasty- I wouldn’t change a thing”

“It’s a thumbs- up from me!”

“This would be amazing with custard”

“I don’t normally like banana but this is really good!”

Book Sale

Thank you to the children on the School Council and Eco Council who set up the hall ready for the big book sale after school.  They did a sterling job sorting all the books into non-fiction, pre-school, Disney, fiction, fairy tales, poetry, chapter books, comics, box sets and superhero books.  Thank you to everyone who kindly donated books towards the sale too as it was greatly appreciated.

It was lovely to see some of the school council able to help at the sale too and they all really enjoyed it.

Mia said “I think this has been a success”.

Harriet thought “It was good fun to help out.”

Charlie commented that “I like this – it’s getting busy” and was happy to help others by handing bags out for all their books.

The money raised will be donated to MacMillan Cancer Research – watch out in the newsletter for the final amount.

Well done school council and eco council.

'Children in Need' Toy Sale

School Council and Eco Council helped organise all the donations of toys which the children brought in last Friday on 'Children in Need' day.  They were sorted onto different tables - soft toys, cars/ vehicles, jigsaws, boxed games, construction, dressing up and miscellaneous. There was a real buzz in the hall.

Many children and their families made their way around the tables. All donations were passed to staff who kindly came to help and support at the sale.

Thank you to all parents and children for supporting the sale; to School Council and Eco Council for helping set up; to staff who were able to help set up, man the sale and help tidy up afterwards.

Children in Need have benefitted hugely from this team effort. We made a phenomenal £483.42

We are hoping we can organise another 'flash' sale with the items that were left .... watch this space .... news will follow about this.

On your marks..... get set ... Go .... Runathon!!!!

Fundraising got underway this week for the 'Runathon' which will take place on the Wednesday during the Jubilee week.  School Council decided that instead of having a sponsored event or a "bring a £1 on the day" event, they chose to ask the children to save 1p, 2p and 5p coins.

This week saw the first contributions being brought in and thank you to all the children and families who have already donated this week.  Class LH had a staggering start and are well underway with their fund-raising.

School council look forward to seeing how much money can be raised from the coin collection.   Please start bringing donations into your class from now on until the Runathon ready for the big count and the big run during Jubilee week.

EACH is the charity which School Council have chosen to support for this event.

Thank you in advance for all your kind donations.

School Council

It was so lovely to have our first school council meeting last week.

We played a few ice-breaker games so that we could all get to know each other across the two key stages.  We then talked about our roles and the expectations.

We are all looking forward to working together over the next year.

School Council

We are delighted that each of the classes has now appointed their class representatives for the school council.  Unfortunately, due to current restrictions, we are unable to meet as a group but that has not stopped school council getting involved in school life.

We welcome the following children who will represent their classes on to the school council:-

VWe – Caroline and Euan            VWh -  Beatrice and Edward

AJ – James and Beatrix               MV – Lola and George

KVJA – Evie and Lennie              SBRH – Lizzy and Fynley

LC – Rory and Oliver                   LH – Lucy and Charlie

KB – Maddie and Lucas               JT – Callum and Amelia

KM – Rubi and Gregory               CH - Paisley and Gus

Their first role this year was to help make a wreath for the Remembrance Day service.  The wreath will be held  by representatives of the school council at our Remembrance Day service and it will then be displayed in school as we remember those who have died for us in previous wars.  Every school councillor has been involved in creating this special wreath.
