Decking the Tree with Eco Delight!

Today, our KS2 Eco Council, visited St. Michael’s Church to decorate our school’s tree for the Christmas Tree Festival.

All the decorations were hand made by the council members from Year 1 to 6. They made watercolour paper angels, and they did a fantastic job of arranging them on the tree.

We think you will agree, the tree looks just beautiful!

Children in need sale

School council and Eco council did an amazing job with the toy and book sale in aid of Children in Need.  We were grateful for the toys, books, jigsaws, boxed games, dressing up toys and soft toys which we received.

Thank you to everyone for your donations and for those of you bought toys and made donations to a very well worth cause. We raised £259.72.

Enrichment Afternoons start tomorrow!

We're excited to start our Enrichment afternoons tomorrow!

Every Friday afternoon our Key Stage 2 children will embark on a six-week block covering a variety of enriching subjects

Each half term they will experience a new project - throughout the year they will engage in Philosophy, Robin Wood, British Sign Language, Drama, First Aid and Eco-Awareness.

These activities aim to broaden their horizons, extend their learning beyond the curriculum, spark creativity, and encourage critical thinking.

Children within Key Stage 2 will be organised in cross-age groups, allowing for peer learning and collaboration, with a rotation system implemented throughout the academic year.

Litter pick

Whilst their siblings ran at Junior Flyers last night some of the children helped do a litter pick around the football field in Framlingham, two of the team are part of our School Eco Council.

Great effort from you all, with lots of litter cleared looking at the number of bags collected!

Library in a box

Following an informative assembly for the children on Friday, we wanted to share their Library in a Box concept with parents.  The library want help to create and share ideas from the children to help design a new children's area within Framlingham library.  All the children were asked to imagine what and where their perfect library would be... literally anywhere - real or fictitious!

The Library would like the children to have a go at designing a "Library in a box".  The finished library should be no bigger than a shoe box or cereal box.  They can use junk modelling, painting, stick in pictures, photos etc.

Drop off your box at the Library in the week before half term.

Further and more detailed information is being sent via parentmail today.  Happy designing!!

Eco Council have green fingers!

Last Thursday, Eco Council planted hundreds of kindly donated bulbs into our beautiful new wooden planters which were given to the school by Mrs Picton when she retired.

We planted Dwarf Daffodils, Grasses, Pansies Tulips, Dwarf Irises, Narcissus Niveth, Allium Sphaerocephalon and a Ipheion mix. The children loved getting their hands muddy!

Thank you to all the families that donated bulbs and plants for this mini project.

EARTH DAY COMPETITION

Earth Day is a worldwide event that is celebrated annually. It celebrates the environmental diversity of Earth and highlights ways of protecting our planet.

This year, the Eco- Council competition, which was launched to the children in April, was to create a poster which emphasises the importance of protecting our wonderful planet and the life upon it.

We are delighted to show you the winning entries in each key stage: EYFS, KS1, LKS2 and UKS2.

Well done to our 4 brilliant winners & well done to everyone who took part, you all contributed some wonderful & though provoking entries, and Miss Whipps had a hard job deciding the final 4.

Book Sale

Thank you to the children on the School Council and Eco Council who set up the hall ready for the big book sale after school.  They did a sterling job sorting all the books into non-fiction, pre-school, Disney, fiction, fairy tales, poetry, chapter books, comics, box sets and superhero books.  Thank you to everyone who kindly donated books towards the sale too as it was greatly appreciated.

It was lovely to see some of the school council able to help at the sale too and they all really enjoyed it.

Mia said “I think this has been a success”.

Harriet thought “It was good fun to help out.”

Charlie commented that “I like this – it’s getting busy” and was happy to help others by handing bags out for all their books.

The money raised will be donated to MacMillan Cancer Research – watch out in the newsletter for the final amount.

Well done school council and eco council.

Eco- Council Litter Pick

Recently, the Eco- Council got together and decided to take some immediate action by conducting a litter pick around school. The children were suitably prepared for the task, and we went off on our mission. Both playgrounds were covered, as well as the staff car park areas and dining areas.

On the playgrounds, the children collected fruit and veg which had been dropped or discarded by children and not picked up and binned. We discussed the wider implications of this and children quite rightly we're concerned if this continued.

Other items we picked up were food bags/wrappers, a sponge, snack pot lids. We also talked the impact and worried about about small animals consuming wrappers and micro plastics getting into water sources by air travel, particularly the Mere. We also said that it looked untidy.

Going forward, the Eco-Council believe saving the planet starts with us at home and school - they're going to work hard to model positive behaviours to their peers. They will speak to their classes about putting rubbish in bins or back in lunch boxes to take home, and to encourage everyone to pick up and bin litter when they see it.
