Sadly left it a bit late to take photos today, as many fantastic hair-dos had dropped out in the day! But here's a taster of some of them...

FRIENDS PURCHASES FOR THE SCHOOL
We are delighted to let parents know that we’ve recently made some purchases for the school with funds that the Friends have raised.
We’ve purchased a large number of book titles for KS2 for their class topic group reading texts (16 or each set), as well as some more sets of phonics books to expand our provision for KS1 & Reception.
As well as
these, we have ordered a number of mini Lego sets for group model building
sessions.
In addition to
these sets we would really welcome any donations of unwanted Lego bricks, smaller
sized models (like the ones in the photo), or mini figures. If you do have any, then please just drop
your donations to the school office, thank you.
Crazy Hair - Fete Donation Thanks!
The Friends would like to say a big thank you to all the wonderful families for their generosity donating prizes today for the tombola stalls & for the raffle for the Summer Fete on Friday 9 June.
The children had some amazing crazy hair, and we'll share some images later.
Here's just a glimpse of some of the prizes that will be appearing on the bottle tombola & the children's tombola.

Parent Governor Vacancy - apply by 12 June
We would really like to hear from any parents who may have an interest in getting more involved with our school by joining our Governing Body.
We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor which we would ideally like to fill this term.
The most important qualities for becoming a Governor at Framlingham Sir Robert Hitcham’s are enthusiasm, commitment and an interest in education. You don’t need teaching experience, but it’s useful to bring skills from other areas of your life. You will need to attend a Governors' meeting each half term. You will also be expected to join some sub-committees – these cover different areas like the curriculum, admissions, finance or buildings. You will need to be able to work well in a team, as you will be making joint decisions on policy. Demands on your time depend partly on what’s going on in the school. As a Governor, you may need to contribute approximately eight to ten hours a month.
Full details of the nomination process are attached to the ParentMail letter we sent, and if you are interested, Mrs Picton would be more than happy to meet with you to discuss the role and what is involved in more detail.
Please also see our Governor page on the website for more information: https://www.hitchamsframlingham.org.uk/Governors/
The closing date for applications is now extended to 12 June 2023.
Year 2 racing around!
As readers, writers and mathematicians, year 2 have worked incredibly hard with their SATs over the past couple of weeks. Well done to you all for such a great attitude. And so, with great excitement and eagerness, we headed up to the sports field to, what has to be, the best view from any sports field in the locality! We are so lucky to have such a marvellous view in Framlingham!!
As sportspeople, we enjoyed practicing and learning some of
the skills needed for sports day such as getting the lead leg correct in the hurdles;
staying in the tracks for the running; using perseverance with the stilts and
getting in and out of the sacks ready to jump.
We were also learning the new skill of throwing a vortex accurately and
most of us managed to improve our throwing throughout the lesson. Phew – what
an action packed afternoon!!

Dragons and castles in Nursery
The past two weeks have been full of fun exploring learning with dragons and castles. We have shared lots of fiction books involving dragons and castles and also looked at some non-fiction texts to learn about castles and to practise some new words such as moat, drawbridge, portcullis and well. We have been thinking about what life would have been like living in a castle long long ago and enjoyed this through small world and role play activities.
We have enjoyed working together to build castles too.
We also had a wonderful time visiting the field to enjoy the open space and to spot our very own Framlingham Castle.
We have been creating our own flags and coats of arms and we have been exploring maths concepts as well, using our dragon's golden coins treasure and matching shapes with the castle jewels.

Cross Country Finals
We were so impressed with the performance of all the children from Years 4,5 & 6 who completed in the Cross Country finals today at Hartismere.
They ran a really long distance, and showed stamina, determination & resilience and all had a lovely time.
We are very proud of the children for completing the course and are pleased to announce we had 2 medal winners amongst the team who both came first in their age group.
Well done to you all!
The Week in MS
This week we explored the parts of flowering plants by dissecting them. We had to cut off and identify different parts of a plant. This helped us to better understand the functions of the various parts and how they help the plant to reproduce.
As artists, we continued to develop our still life sketching and painting skills with Mrs Lucas. We were given some objects in a composition and asked to first sketch and then paint the objects as accurately as we could. In order to do this, we not only had to use a keen eye for detail but also use our colour matching and mixing skills.

Class LH disperse around the school!!
As part of the topic, the scientists in Class LH have been finding out further information about plants and seeds. We continue to observe our bean seeds weekly growing in different conditions and keeping a diary. As writers, we have labelled the real plants that we pressed and then have found out what each part of the plant is used for. As musicians, we also learnt a song to the tune of "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" about "Petals, Leaves, Stem and Roots" and enjoyed creating our own middle verse and then performing it in the class.
This week, the scientists established what makes seed
dispersal successful using the wind, water, animals eating seeds, seeds
sticking to animals or explosion. We
looked at a variety of plants from a range of habitats and discussed why some
habitats were not suitable for different kinds of dispersal whereas others were
much more suitable.
We enjoyed making a clay burr to represent a seed which
would stick to animal fur to be dispersed – some of us found it really tricky
to make the spikes but with perseverance we did it! We also made a dandelion which would disperse
in the wind and a sycamore ‘propeller’ which would float in the wind.
We had great success testing these in the hall and enjoyed
trying to make them fly high!
