This week, as designers, class MB have been designing their own Christmas tree decorations. We then developed our skill of sewing by using the whip stitch. Today, we evaluated our work, stating what we liked and disliked and how we could improve our design next time. Hopefully they will be hanging on each child in MB's Christmas tree.
As we come to the end of term we'd like to wish all our families a very MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
In the Whole School assembly this morning the runners up and winner of the Key Stage 2 Writing Competition were announced.
All the children in Key Stage 2 were asked to produce a piece of writing about the 'True Meaning of Christmas' and they could write in any style they like.
Each class teacher then had to choose their top 4 entries to go forward to a judging panel led Mr Mawson.
The quality of writing was outstanding and of a very high standard - entries included; stories, poems, songs, play scripts and a wassail!
After much deliberation the judging panel decided on 4 runners up and a winner.
On behalf of myself and the class teachers I would like to say thank you to Mr Mawson for his support with the competition and for judging the final entries and a huge well done to the runners up and winner.

I am delighted to announce the winners of the 2022 Year 5 and 6 Swimming Gala were Hitchams House.
A huge congratulations to them and all of the other teams as well. In the end there was just points separating the four houses which shows just how closely fought the competition was. A big well done to all those who competed.

This term, the children have found their topic 'Fallen Fields' fascinating, moving, inspiring and totally engaging.
Today, two boys in Class SBJA were so inspired by the topic that when the whole class was given the opportunity to complete an extra Design Technology mini project linked to Christmas, they very politely asked if they could design a World War II style airfield, complete with living quarters, 'planes, a runway and so on. They had apparently been talking about hoping to make a model at some point. The boys' detailed knowledge and fascination with their topic was inspiring and so is the model, as you will see. They were able to explain why they had chosen to include the different features, why they were relevant, displayed excellent planning skills, effective use of materials, took care and talked about the features of the design and more. We were really impressed with them and their detailed knowledge.
When the boys shared their model with the the class, the rest of the children broke into a
Class SBJA /Year 5 pupils have worked really hard to design and make these wonderful festive felt gift bags. Each child had to choose:
the colour of felt they liked, measure, cut, design their motif, sew the seams and then sew on a button and lots more - using the Year 5 Design technology Curriculum objectives.

It was a frosty & icy walk to Church this morning for the Carol Service.
Our Year 3 & 4 children led the service with readings, prayers and carols, and they did a wonderful job. Parents and Grandparents were invited to watch and join in.
It was a lovely celebration of Christmas.

Last Friday evening the children of Sing Praise were joined by over twenty more from SRH (years 4 and 5) for a special Christmas concert at St Michael’s Church.
Class LH enjoyed their final morning at Forest Schools on another crisp, cold morning.
Having found out about the names of the different parts of
leaves; their shapes and types, this week we did some leaf rubbings from the nine different trees around Robin Wood.
We also created some different Christmas ornaments which included a Father Christmas and a robin from wood disks; a fir cone Christmas Tree and some bracelets using elder wood. We also had a go at lighting the fairy blankets, enjoyed the mud kitchen, used our
problem solving skills to set up a water run with the piping, digging in the mud
pit and of course looking for minibeasts and worms under the logs.
Thank you so much to Mrs Waddell and Mrs Crittenden for
making our learning so enjoyable up at the wood.
The children in art club have now completed their money boxes
in the style of a chosen artist. They have worked really hard completing a
process of research, design and creation. We think you would agree that they
have produced some fantastic results.
Once the money boxes were complete, some children had time
to make some Christmas wreaths using recycled papers.
Miss Turner and Mrs Sears are looking forward to welcoming
the next group of children in art club in the new year.

As scientists, we have been learning to classify animals based on their diets. We thought about what we had learnt about animals teeth in previous lessons as well as our existing knowledge of animal diets and food chains to place animals within a Venn diagram. We had to classify animals as herbivores (plant based diet), carnivores (meat based diet) and omnivores who eat both were placed in the middle.
