Enrichment Afternoons - Robin Wood

The weather didn’t stop us, we just brought the Robin Wood (Forest School's) outdoor activities indoors. 

Using natural materials the Key Stage 2 children on this half term's rota for Robin Wood made a collage of Pudsey for Children in Need. 

DR - Worm Experiment

This week, Class DR transformed into brilliant scientists. We gathered the materials to create 6 different habitats. Then we searched long and hard to find 30 wiggly worms. We put the worms into the middle of the tray and made predictions about which habitat the worms would prefer. We left the worms over night. The next morning we discovered the worms had all chosen their favourite habitat. Ask your child about what we discovered...

Enrichment Robin Wood

On Friday afternoon, Miss. Whipps and Mrs. Mawson had the absolute pleasure of taking some of the KS2 children to Robin Wood for their enrichment session, while Mrs. Skeggs and Miss. Elliott were away with the Year 6 children at camp. 

The group began by looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy, an artist who uses natural materials to create stunning outdoor artwork. Inspired by his creativity, we ventured into Robin Wood to design our own masterpieces. 

The results were wonderfully varied — some children created 3D sculptures, while others explored complementary colours and experimented with different shapes and textures. 

All of our KS2 children will have the opportunity to take part in Robin Wood sessions over the course of the year. Fantastic work, everyone!

Robin Wood with Class JT and Class DR

 

This afternoon Class JT and Class DR spent time at Robin Wood being scientists. After making predictions, they carried out an experiment to test the suitability of materials for a waterproof coat.

Class JT D Day

 

Today, Class JT have created art work that depicts the Normandy coastline in France to commemorate 80 years since

D Day and the Normandy landings.

Whilst at forest school the children made the number 80 in a variety of creative ways.

 

Nursery visits Robin Wood

Nursery love visiting Robin Wood on Fridays. We have experienced every weather on our trips down there. This term we have built the Three Little Pigs their homes out of straw, sticks and bricks. We have re-enacted the story ourselves using the many dens in Robin Wood. We all have a wonderful time enjoying snack, stories and jumping in muddy puddles together. We can't wait for our next forest adventure. 

  

Class KH Science

In Class KH we have enjoyed being Scientists up at Robin Wood, exploring the properties of water, measuring puddles, being ice detectives and completing time challenges. We have been learning about time for STEM week, making watches, clocks and Big Ben Towers. We enjoyed doing the tooth decay experiment using eggs and different liquids and observing the changes they made to the egg.  We liked doing the Skittle challenge and noticed how quickly the colour of the skittles ran when water was added. We have had lots of fun being Scientists!

Bug Residence Research

As designers, Class HHMBr are researching and developing our ideas to create a mini beast hotel.

We used our identification sheet at Robin Wood to find out about the habitats of mini beasts.

We are deciding which mini beasts we want to attract in our own bug hotel.

We will be busy collecting string, small pebbles, hay or straw, dry leaves, empty kitchen/toilet rolls and dry sticks at home to create our mini beast mansion.

 

We can’t wait to make the mini beast hotels with our grown-ups during our share session!
