A couple of weeks ago, the children in Class VW took part in a debate as part of their RE learning on Hinduism. They learned about the dilemma posed by Shambo the bull, who became the centre of a controversial issue after testing positive for Bovine TB. Shambo had been living at the Skanda Vale temple in Wales, and his case raised many difficult questions for Hindus, farmers, and veterinary professionals. The Hindu community believed that he was sacred animal.
The children took on different viewpoints during
the debate, representing groups such as DEFRA, Jay Lakhani, Michael Morpurgo,
the Court of Human Rights, vets, and other professionals. They researched their
allocated viewpoints thoroughly and debated the issue with great enthusiasm.
The case of Shambo, which led to his slaughter in 2007, sparked important
discussions on ethics, religion, and animal welfare.
On Thursday afternoon, Year 6 opened their
classroom doors to parents to share our maths teaching strategies. It was
wonderful to see so many parents attending and engaging with the content.
