The sound of Christmas fills the Church
Year 3 and year 4 treated us to a beautiful Christmas carol service in St Michael's Church. The singing was angelic; the chime bars were very harmonious and the retelling of the story of the birth of Jesus was told by the year 4 children whilst the year 3 pupils acted out the story alongside the narrators.
An alternative version of "Away in the manger" was sung so beautifully. "Silent night" was magical with the chime bar introduction followed by the French rendition filling the church. The congregation were in awe of the song "Gabriel" with the two part harmony which was breath-taking. Thank you to all involved... it has certainly set us up for Christmas.

Exciting European Learning
Wow! - what a morning we have all had.
We started off with an assembly to celebrate our special day. Thank you to Mrs Jones' class for sharing a Spanish prayer through song which was fantastic. Mrs Jenkins then treated us to a rendition of The Hungry Caterpillar which she read in Dutch as she was born in the Netherlands. We were all able to follow this well known story and some of the words like, 'lollypop' were the same in English and Dutch.
There has been a real buzz of excitement around the school and it has been marvellous to hear so many European languages being spoken, to taste European food from churros and tapas to croissants and Italian style food. The teachers and children have been so creative in their approach to the learning.
During playtime, we heard comments from the children about the fun way that they were learning and how much they enjoyed learning new information through dance, art, music, maps and spoken language.
The countries studied were: France, Holland, Italy, Poland, Malta, Denmark and Spain and the teachers all had special reasons why they thought their class would love to learn about their chosen country. One of the teachers reminded us that Denmark was the birthplace of Lego......... Need we say More ?!
Thank you to the catering team for their special, European inspired lunch. The smell of the meal being prepared was delicious as it wafted around the school.

DT & French in Class LHMBr
As designers, Class LH/MBr Year 3's have been incredibly busy designing, making and tasting a healthy meal. The children worked hard to complete a balanced plate of food based on the ‘Eatwell guide’. They used skills including using the claw grip and bridge grip to chop, grate and prepare the food. We ensured we had the right amount of protein, fruit and vegetables and carbohydrates on our plate and then of course the best part of the learning…eating!
Class LH/MBr are loving learning French with Mrs. Lucas. For the European Day of Languages we learnt about how popular cheese is in France. We tried three different types of cheese: Boursin, Brie and Camembert. Bon Appetit!

A little taste of Europe!
As Linguists, we all enjoyed partaking in European Language Day. There was a lot of new learning not only about France and the French language, which we learn about in Key Stage 2, but also about other European countries. As geographers, the cultural differences were explored along with finding out about the physical geography, flags, capital cities and speaking some of the language spoken.
Here is a taste
of some of the activities that we got up to:-
Class KH enjoyed
making Romanian making Pasca (bread); Class JT tasted French ‘crepes’ and ‘pain
au chocolat’ for their breakfast; Class DR explored Italy; Class CR heard from one of the parents to find
out about Ukraine; Class LHMBr listened to some Polish stories and also tried a
few French cheeses; Class MS focused on the Czech Republic; Class KV compared cultural differences between
several European countries; Class SBJA discovered different ways to say
greetings in different languages and investigated Portugal; Class SBr explored
Sweden creating posters and enjoying a sing-a-long and dancing to Abba; and Class VW concentrated on Germany.
Some classes
made wreaths out of the flags of the countries or symbols linked to the country
and others created posters.

Class JT
Class JT have had a lovely start to
the new term getting to know each other and settling back into school life
beautifully.
We have enjoyed working within our
term's topic 'Enchanted Woodland' creating wonderful transient art pieces
inspired by Andy Goldsworthy as well as studying art theory and developing
painting skills.
We have been keen scientists
studying the beauty of nature which surrounds us at this time of year and
learning about man made and natural materials.
The class has been using the opportunities
and experiences presented to them at ‘Robin Wood’ to creatively write and have
also completed activities around the story 'Stick Man.'
As mathematicians the children have
been working with place value and completing number problems.
Today during 'European Day of
Languages' we have been learning about France; locating it on a map, learning
French words, numbers and tasting traditional French breakfast foods.
Lots of great learning has been
taking place so far this term which you can see from all of the wonderful
photographs.
Well done Class JT for a fantastic start to the term.
