Prickles in Istanbul

Prickles has just been on holiday with the Hopkins family.
In Istanbul (the capital city of Turkey) we had an amazing time. We visited lots of mosques, bazaars and other tourist attractions. We tried loads of different food and met lots of really friendly people.
The sights were amazing and I really enjoyed the trip. The apple tea was yummy and Prickles always had a sip or two!

Oliver Twist at Thomas Mills High School

120 of our children were very fortunate this morning to watch a fantastically entertaining production at our High School.
Many of our former pupils were on stage and in the orchestra. Some key members of the cast had only left the Primary school 18 months ago.
The quality of acting, singing, dancing and musicianship was outstanding. Hopefully many of our current pupils will get the chance to take part in productions like this when they get to Thomas Mills.

Class DD/PL Share Afternoon

Recently Class PL/DD held a share afternoon. This is when parents are invited in to the classroom to join in activities with their child. The theme for the afternoon was ‘Maths is fun’ and you can see everyone having fun in our photographs. The children were very excited about the afternoon and loved having their parents in the classroom to share in the type of activities that they do. Comments from the parents were very positive. They enjoyed being able to spend time with their child and see how they learn in maths and many said they would have liked it to be longer! Thank you to all who came. A special thank you to Mrs Waddell and Mrs Harold for organising the afternoon and activities.

Whole School Letter (12)

VICTORIAN DAY
Victorian Day last week was a huge success; we would like to thank all the parents for the wonderful costumes, the children looked amazing. Do take a look on the website for some of the photos, or on the display near the office.

CATS’ EYES FOR KIDS – CHILD ROAD SAFETY
Each new child that starts in Reception is given a reflector to attach to their clothing/bag etc by the County Council sponsored by Nationwide. We have been informed that if your child has lost or would like a new reflector you may order these via the school for £1.00 each. There are several really nice designs available but the company are unable to specify what they will send us. Please complete the order form below and return to the school office by Friday 20 November.

CHILDREN IN NEED – Friday 20 November
Reminder that we will be raising money for Children In Need on this day and children may bring in a teddy (preferably a small one!) and a donation of 50p.
There will also be a special SCC ‘Pudsey Picnic Lunch’ on this day – look out for the menus.

CHRISTMAS SHOE BOX APPEAL
Thank you to those of you who have kindly filled a Christmas shoebox for the Samaritans Purse. We have received 65 Shoe Boxes into school, which is fantastic.

RAFFLE PRIZE DONATIONS FOR FRIENDS ‘GRAND PRIZE DRAW’
Through the Friends recent Newsletter, you will have seen that there is not going to be a Christmas Fair this year. The children will be able to visit Santa in his Grotto at the Christmas Disco and there will also still be a Grand Prize Draw (to be drawn in an Assembly on 14 December). Donations of prizes (eg Bottles of Alcohol, Boxes of Chocolates, new gifts, vouchers etc) would be greatly welcomed by the Friends to make this a really superb Draw. Please bring these donations to the office by Monday 30 November. Thank you.

SINGING CLUB
Miss Ashberry and Mrs Mawson are continuing with Singing Club on Friday lunchtimes and after school. They would welcome any new members, so if your child might like to join they can go to the Music Room on Friday lunchtime. If they would like to come after school too please write a note to Miss Ashberry so she knows to expect them. Thank you.

Howard v Hitcham Football Match

In the first of the full size house matches Hitcham beat Howard by 5 goals to 2. Howard did go into an early 2-1 lead but a strong Hitcham team gradually started to pass the ball to each other to finish the second half on top.
These excellent action shots were taken by Nathan Skeggs in Year 6.

Victorian Day Videos

You can see below some of the Victorian Day children in more relaxed mode - on the playground. You might also be interested to read a page from our old school log book - from the 1890s.

Christmas Boxes Ready to go

Today we have nearly 70 Christmas Boxes ready for collection by Operation Christmas Child. A fantastic and generous effort by the children of our school.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

Yesterday we had a visit from the 'Working Space Theatre'. Two actors put on a brilliant performance of Charles Dickens: A Christmas Carol. Three of our year 6 children also joined in as some of the child parts.
Although Christmas is some way off yet. This was a great introduction to our Key Stage 2 Victorians topic for this half term.
The play gave us all a feel for Victorian costume, working practices and family life. It also reminded us of the timeless message about greed and selfishness.
Next week we are going up to Thomas Mills High School to watch another Dickens play: Oliver Twist.
