PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR ADVERTS FOR SUMMER HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
SUMMER READING SCHEME AT THE LIBRARY
The theme this year is ‘Creepy House’ which will really engage children throughout the summer holidays. Last year 4,442 children in Suffolk signed up to take part in the challenge. It’s a great way of introducing children to what their local library has to offer.
Libraries are also keen to hear from anyone who is 14 or over who would like to volunteer to help run the Reading Challenge over the summer. Anyone who is interested can talk to their local library about this.
Children can sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge at any Suffolk library from 21 July and the Reading Challenge runs until 8 September. Parents and pupils will be able to get more information from their local library so we’d encourage them to speak to their library in June or July. You can find out the contact details for your local library at www.suffolklibraries.co.uk
Every child who signs up for the challenge will have the chance to earn stickers and rewards as they progress through the ‘Creepy House’ and hopefully complete the challenge of reading six library books. You have to be a library member to take part but this is free and easy to do at any library in Suffolk. There is more information here:
WORD PLAY COURSE
To bridge the gap over the summer holidays there are courses at Framlingham College for children aged 7-10 or 11-15. The courses will develop creative writing, verbal skills, working memory and reading skills in a fun and dynamic way and will be run by the Head of Learning Support and an English teacher from Framlingham College. Children can attend up to 4 of the sessions on 13/15/20/22 August. The cost is £35 per session (either a morning or afternoon).
