Year 2 started their new topic, "Enchanted Woodland", by visiting the mere to identify the features of deciduous and evergreen trees and then to be tree detectives and find out the different types of trees around the mere.
Then, later on in the week, we used the tablets to find out what types of trees we have in our playground. We used the tablets to read the QR codes which were on the trees. With a leaf identification sheet, we worked out the six main trees on the playground. We decided that the hornbeam and the crab apple were very similar but we looked really closely and we were able to work out the correct trees.
We mapped out the position of the trees using a key with the identification chart.
