MB's Busy Bees!

The children in MB have all settled into reception very quickly. It's been lovely to see their smiley faces coming into school each day. We have been very busy using Supersonic Phonics to learn the first sounds 's,a t,p'. As mathematicians, we have been counting, recognising and writing numbers to 5, along with learning number rhymes. We have also visited Robin Wood and been lucky enough to have our PE lessons on the field. What a busy few weeks! Well done MB, you should all be very proud of yourselves.

Inspirational Singing Workshop

The children were really lucky to have two wonderful professional singers in school yesterday.

Year 1-4 had a really uplifting workshop in the hall, where the amazing singing duo had the children singing at full volume!  They sounded incredible!

This was followed in the afternoon by the Year 5 & 6 joining children from other local schools for a longer singing workshop at Thomas Mills High School.

Maths Wizards

Wednesday was the first day of Maths Wizards club for Year 1 and 2 at lunch time.

Lots of children wanted to come along - how fabulous!  We did have to restrict the numbers today but hope that all those who wish to attend will get the opportunity over the next few weeks.

Four very kind Year 6 children came and supported - thanks to Fynley, Ralph, Nancy and Georgie for being so helpful.

The children played various maths games and they worked on their number bonds, money skills, general mathematical language and confidence.

Class KV

Class KV

In art Class KV have been looking at the work of Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000).  He was an Austrian architect, artist and environmentalist. He used lines and patterns from nature such as spirals and loose contour lines.  Hundertwasser liked bright, bold colours and irregular shapes in his architecture as well as his art. Nothing was symmetrical and he even had trees growing on the roofs of some of his buildings.  We had great fun making these pictures, we hope you like out lollipop trees!

Chess Club

After attending Chess Club with Mr Byer as a child, Mr Snowden is continuing the long tradition of lunchtime Chess Club at SRH.

The first lunchtime session was held today and offered a place where beginners, experts and everyone in between could develop their skills and have fun playing games against their friends.

Chess Club is open to all of Key Stage 2 on Tuesdays between 12:45 and 1:15. You do not need to know how to play chess, or be a chess wizard, to come along and have a few games.

Class JT

Class JT have had a lovely start to the new term getting to know each other and settling back into school life beautifully.

We have enjoyed working within our term's topic 'Enchanted Woodland' creating wonderful transient art pieces inspired by Andy Goldsworthy as well as studying art theory and developing painting skills.

We have been keen scientists studying the beauty of nature which surrounds us at this time of year and learning about man made and natural materials.

The class has been using the opportunities and experiences presented to them at ‘Robin Wood’ to creatively write and have also completed activities around the story 'Stick Man.'

As mathematicians the children have been working with place value and completing number problems.

Today during 'European Day of Languages' we have been learning about France; locating it on a map, learning French words, numbers and tasting traditional French breakfast foods.

Lots of great learning has been taking place so far this term which you can see from all of the wonderful photographs.

Well done Class JT for a fantastic start to the term.

The First Few Weeks in Class KM

Class KM have settled in beautifully, bonded really well as a class and started to embark on some fantastic learning.

Here are just a few examples of some of the things happening in our class.

We discovered an Enchanted Woodland in Robin Wood.

We are being artists and have drawn inspiration from the works of

Wassily Kandinsky whilst painting portraits.

There will be more photos to follow of the final pieces.

We collected natural treasures from Robin Wood and began to make portraits with these too. We enjoyed learning about Andy Goldsworthy and will make some more  natural creations inspired by his work.

We also like to be creative in our outdoor classroom and mud kitchen!

We are enjoying discovering what fantastic mathematicians we are too!
We are working with numbers and doing lots of sorting activities.
You would be surprised at how many ways there are to sort a box of buttons!

Well done Class KM, you have made a fabulous start to the year!
