Thinking Day 2016

The 22nd February is the birth date of Baden Powell - the founder of the Scout and Guide movement.

This year about a third of our children came to school in uniform: Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

Tractor visit to our School

What a fantastic experience our year 3 and 4 children had today.
Local farm manager Dan Kiddy from William Kerr farm estate and Steven Smith from Tuckwells at Worlingworth brought a fabulous brand new John Deere tractor onto the playground.
They spent time with the children talking about farming and produce, showing and discussing locally grown foodstuffs such as wheat, oats, rapeseed, sugarbeet and much more.  The children had a chance to look over the tractor and to hear the engine running.
We also had another visitor - Luke Deal from BBC radio Suffolk who interviewed Mrs Ambrose and some of the children for a broadcast going out tomorrow.

Cookery Club Welcome in the Chinese New Year!

We finished our year 6 Cookery Club with a Chinese New Year celebration.  We made our own noodles and a stir fry.
Mrs Chan kindly provided a 'goodie bag' for each of the children with a fortune cookie, a red envelope with a chocolate coin and some chop sticks.
Did you know that the longer you make your noodle, the longer you will live?
Some of the children had a really good try to make them as long as possible!

Barn Owl in Assembly

Yesterday we were treated to a beautiful barn owl in our assembly.
He is called Cobweb and lives at the owl sanctuary at Stonham Barns.
The children asked Cobweb's handler some very interesting questions.

SRH Wins School Rugby Tournament

Yesterday we sent 2 teams to the area rugby tournament at Hartismere High School.
8 teams played each other in a league which took all morning.
We have not won this particular tournament for about 10 years so were delighted that our A team emerged as champions..
We won 6 and drew 1 of our 7 games - scoring 43 tries and only conceding 7.
Our B team won 3 games to finish 5th.

Our A team (on the back row) with their gold medals and the B team in front.

A big thank you to Mr Shakeshaft and Mr BK for their assistance and to our parents for their support.

Bulstrode Win Thrilling House Hockey Tournament

4 house teams played a tournament on the astro pitch at Thomas Mills High School last Thursday.

The teams were quite closely matched and the standard was the highest for several years.
The tournament started with an amazing 5-5 draw between Bulstrode and Mills.
There followed a series of close games between all 4 teams.
It all came down to the last round of matches.
Howard beat Mills 2-1 and Bulstrode drew 2-2 with Hitcham to finish as the only unbeaten team: 1 win and 2 draws.
There is an inter-school tournament after half term where we will be entering a strong squad of players.
