Discovering the Meaning of the Eucharist in Class AL

This week in Class AL, we explored the Christian understanding of the Eucharist in our Christian Living lesson. We learned how Christians remember Jesus’ Last Supper and why bread and wine are important symbols of His love and sacrifice. We looked at passages from the Bible and talked about what they mean for believers today. To show our learning, we designed our own postcards with messages and drawings about the Eucharist.

Dance Workshop Tomorrow! Wear PE Kit!

Whole School Photo

Luckily the weather held yesterday morning for the mammoth task of getting the whole school together for a photograph.

This event only happens once every 4 years, and gives families the opportunity to have a super memento if they wish to.  We'll be sending out links to orders when the photographers have the final product to share.

Playground Fun

The children are thoroughly enjoying the new markings on both playgrounds that were laid down over half term. They are super bright & lots of fun!

We are pleased to have been able to use some of this year's Sports Premium funding to cover the costs of this, which will help encourage the children to do extra physical activity at playtimes.

Equality

This term, Year 3 and 4 are learning about Sikhism in their RE lessons. Guru Amar Das taught that "One God created all men. All men were moulded out of the same clay, the Great Potter has merely varied the shapes of them." We began the topic by making clay pots, focusing on the idea that we are all made equally - out of the same original clay. The children loved the task and are really proud of their unique but equally excellent creations!

Walkabout - after school Weds 10 June

Year 3 and Year 4 get baking!

Year 3 and Year 4 launched their new text by making and baking some delicious buns. As part of the school's exciting new literacy based curriculum, we will study "The Baker by the Sea" by Paula White over the next few weeks.  We are looking forward to meeting the author too.

During the lesson we identified many imperative verbs when reading the recipe.  We all tried a bun in the afternoon and each took one home.  Some children were reluctant to try but once they did they really liked them.   A great team effort to create some lovely buns.

Year 5 and 6 STEM Workshops

Today, Year 5 and 6 were fortunate to take part in a STEM workshop led by STEMPOINT ambassadors. They learned about the role of offshore wind energy, including the East Coast Wind Farm, discovering that a single wind farm can power an impressive 700,000 homes.

The ambassadors also shared information about the wind farm in Great Yarmouth, which has been in operation for many years. Pupils were fascinated to learn that one of the older turbines is approximately the size of the London Eye, while more modern turbines can reach heights of around 280 metres—similar to the height of The Shard. The children also learned that the Crown Estate owns the seabed and that developing offshore wind farms involves many different people and areas of expertise.

We explored a range of renewable energy sources, including solar, hydro, biomass and geothermal energy, before reflecting on non-renewable sources and the impact they have on our planet. The children also learned how electricity generated offshore reaches homes and schools. One ambassador explained how large underground cables are laid at a depth that allows farmers to continue using the land effectively, without affecting the landscape.

Towards the end of the workshop, we discussed the advantages of using three blades on a wind turbine rather than four. We learned that each blade weighs around 30–35 tonnes, meaning that adding extra blades would significantly increase both the weight and cost, making it unviable. The ambassadors also spoke about STEM careers, including engineering, civil construction, communications, archaeology and environmental roles.

To conclude the workshop, the children worked in small groups to design and create their own prototype wind turbines, demonstrating excellent teamwork and creativity.

Thank you to STEMPOINT for providing such a fantastic and engaging learning experience.

Whole School Photo Day on Wednesday

Young Engineers at Work: Building Wind Turbines

This morning, our Year 5 engineers had a fantastic experience in the school hall by attending a STEM workshop with STEMPOINT and Will Sealey from Scottish Power Renewables.  We learned all about renewable energy sources. The children then constructed their own mini wind turbines. The children worked like real engineers, designing, testing, and then thinking about how they could make their turbines even better next time. What a brilliant morning learning about renewable energy!

Welcome Back to the last half term of the year

We welcome all the children back for the final summer term.

We have a jam packed half term - take a look at the diary dates!
