Poetry recital

This morning we held our poetry recital competition and there was a feeling of great excitement.  The recitals were topic based so Key Stage 1 recited their poems about "Wriggle and Crawl" minibeasts and Key Stage 2 recited their poetry about "Gods and Mortals" and the Ancient Greeks.  Mrs Skevington kindly came to judge and found having to make a choice very challenging due to the standard of the recitals being so high.

Mrs Skevington chose Class KH to win 'Poetry Penguin' and she shared how their poem, “Minibeast hunt” was fun, informative, enjoyable and showed great teamwork.  She then announced Class HHMBr as the Key Stage 2 winners saying that their poem showed great expression, used great actions and they worked well together reciting their poem, The Minotaur, very clearly.   Mrs Skevington did understand how much work had gone in to the recitals and how challenging it was for her to choose the winner as  in her eyes “everyone was a winner”.  Well done everybody on your recitals and to Class HHMBR and Class KH for their winning entries.

Year 6 Camp Day

On Monday, year 6 were able to spend the day at the field with Mr. Byer, whereby they engaged in traditional camp experiences in our very own Robin Wood. The children tye-dyed t-shirts, created camp signs, decorated pebbles, made some bracelets using macrame, sang songs around the camp fire and enjoyed hot chocolate and biscuits, too. They were also able to take part in some football and enjoy some down time after their incredibly busy week of external SATs tests last week.

A huge thank you to Mr. Byer for giving up his time and for making this a wonderful experience for the children.

Tennis competition at Framlingham college

The year 3's,4's and 5’s competed in a tennis competition on Monday 20th May at Framlingham college. We took 17 players who all played singles against other schools. As a school we won 49 out of 75 single matches. Five of our children also received a special medal from the sports leaders for standing out in their group of tennis games. The children showed great attitude, determination and tennis skills and made the school very proud.

Chess Tournament

Earlier this week, we saw the conclusion of this year's chess tournament. 37 players from across all of key stage 2 started the competition with Angus and Georgie contesting the final. After a close contest, including one stalemate, Angus emerged victorious.

Our two semi-finalists, Lucas and Amelia, played out a 3rd place match with Amelia being declared the winner.

Final standings:
1st: Angus (VW)
2nd: Georgie (VW)
3rd: Amelia (SBJA)
4th: Lucas (SBr)

A special mention must also go to Callum (MS) for being the furthest placed Year 4 and Milo (CR) for being the furthest placed Year 3.

Regular chess club will continue in the Summer 2 term and is open to anyone in KS2 regardless of previous experience or knowledge. It is the best place to start practicing ahead of next year's tournament.

Art in MS

As artists, Class MS learnt how to create Greek-inspired masks as part of our topic 'Gods and Mortals'. They were given a mask template before layering and gluing paper over top to provide texture and strength.  They then had freedom to decorate their masks in a variety of styles and designs. We now have an amazing display outside our classroom for us all to enjoy.

"They were really fun to make. Everyone made different creations so you can see how people have a different creative side." Fran

"The best thing about making the masks was painting because I really enjoy being able to paint." Harrison

"It was really fun. The best part was doing the paper mache." Walter

Let's get cooking!

Nursery are lucky enough to have the wonderful Mrs Eyles come in on Thursdays to help us get creative in the kitchen. Throughout the year we have measured, poured, mixed, sieved, chopped and cooked many exciting things. Cooking has allowed the children to practice being hygienic and safe whilst tasting new foods. We have noticed changes to foods when we heat them up and cool them down such as toast and porridge. We made hedgehogs out of bread for Hedgehog Week and even enjoyed chopping vegetables to make soup.

We you hope have enjoyed seeing what lovely dishes your children have been making and even had a taste!

Great 'courage' shining through!

Reverend Chris Davey led worship in assembly this morning concentrating on our value of “courage”.  He shared the story of Jesus walking on the water.  The children were able to recap where stories about Jesus were found in the bible and the names of the gospels.

We were reminded about how Peter showed great courage in walking towards Jesus and talked about the emotions and feelings he may have felt.  We shared about how Jesus rescued Peter and showed great courage.  Reverend Chris Davey encouraged us to learn to do the right thing and have the courage to say 'no' when we know things are wrong.  This isn’t always easy but we must use our courage to make the right choices.

Nursery visits Robin Wood

Nursery love visiting Robin Wood on Fridays. We have experienced every weather on our trips down there. This term we have built the Three Little Pigs their homes out of straw, sticks and bricks. We have re-enacted the story ourselves using the many dens in Robin Wood. We all have a wonderful time enjoying snack, stories and jumping in muddy puddles together. We can't wait for our next forest adventure.
