Chinese New Year Celebrations in Class JT

On Wednesday, Class JT enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. With it being the year of the snake, the children created their own snakes folding paper carefully at right angles. They also designed Ming vases using oil pastels, acrylic paint and a scratch technique to form the design. Finally, after enjoying some prawn crackers the children had a go at writing numbers 1-10 in Chinese.

Chinese New Year Fun in MB!

This week, MB have had great fun taking part in Chinese New Year activities. We have learnt why the Snake got a year named after him, tasted prawn crackers, learnt how to write our name in Chinese, made Chinese lanterns and used chopsticks. We finished the week off by creating our own Dragon dance.

Dragon Dance

Our two Reception Classes had fun this morning as part of their Lunar New Year learning.

The children created two fabulous dancing Dragons in the hall.

Take a look at their dance here.

Class KN Volcano Landscapes

Class KN have been making 3D volcano landscapes in  Art.  We had to firstly design them, deciding what materials we would use.  We created our landscape then attached our volcano.  We have enjoyed using different materials.

Learning rocks in RJKH!

RJKH have thoroughly enjoyed a varied week of activities this week in class. We made wonderful Chinese bookmarks yesterday to celebrate Chinese New Year and worked together to produce posters about sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks. We hope you enjoy looking at our photos of some of what we've learnt.

Morning Get-Together

We're really pleased that over 20 parents were able to come along this morning for a relaxed and informal coffee morning, where the senior leaders and parent governors also joined them to chat.

It was a great opportunity to meet other parents and talk about all things school or non-school!

The hot drinks were welcome on this blustery day and our thanks go to to Mrs Gavazzi for the amazing cakes and Mrs Rogers for the super chocolate cookies. When word gets out how good the treats were we expect even more parents at the next one!

We hope those who did come along found it an enjoyable event, and we will look to adding these regularly in the school calendar.

Did you miss the deadline to apply for a Reception place?

The closing date for applying for primary school places for the 2025/2026 school year has now passed.

To apply after the closing date, you must complete a paper application (CAF1) directly to SCC Admissions.  Any paper application received after the closing date will normally be treated as a late application

Sometimes there are very exceptional reasons why an application cannot be made by the closing date. This only applies in circumstances outside your control which made it impossible for the application to have been made on time. If you feel that this applies to you, please write to us giving all your reasons and include as much supporting evidence with your application to reach us by Wednesday 5 February 2025. Your evidence will be considered by a panel and each case will be decided individually. You will receive a letter telling you whether your application will be treated as late or on time.

For more information about how to make a late application please go to www.suffolk.gov.uk/admissions

Please ensure you have included your child’s name and DOB in all of your correspondence.

Spotlight on Maths Week

This week, we are celebrating all things related to maths!

On Monday, Miss Whipps kicked off the week by introducing some thought-provoking ideas and setting an exciting challenge for the students: to create a maths investigation involving Jelly Babies! She offered a few suggestions, such as counting the different colours, creating bar charts, scaling, and working with fractions, decimals, and percentages.

Throughout the week, students are encouraged to share their ideas with Miss Whipps as they explore the challenge.

We’ve also been learning about influential mathematicians like Florence Nightingale, who revolutionised data presentation, and Katherine Johnson, whose groundbreaking work in space exploration helped make history in Space science.

On Friday, we will come together as a whole school to share everything we’ve discovered and learned throughout the week.

County Cross-Country Stars

On Thursday, two of our speedy Year 6 children competed in the County Cross-Country competition at Woodbridge school. They were both racing against Suffolk’s best Year 6 and 7 children, having done well in the local area finals recently.

Both our children told us that there was a “really steep hill” and that they really enjoyed the course!

Our Year 6 girl came in 3rd position out of 100 children (running 2.3 kilometres) and that means that she is the quickest Year 6 girl in Suffolk! Our Year 6 boy also did very well, and came 59th out of 111 (running 3.2 kilometres.)

Huge congratulations to both of them on their truly brilliant effort and successes.

KS2 Rocks, Relics and Rumbles WOW! Day

Yesterday, the KS2 children had an exciting Wow! Day to launch our new topic, Rocks, Relics, and Rumbles.

The day was filled with a variety of hands-on activities designed to engage the children and spark their curiosity. Activities included creating volcanic art, designing a collaborative art piece using recycled materials, making ‘chatterboxes’, conducting mini explosions, and building a diagram of the ‘Layers of the Earth’.

The children moved through a carousel of activities, working in teams to complete each task. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and perseverance were outstanding as they collaborated, problem-solved, and expressed their creativity.

It was wonderful to see them fully immersed in the topic, applying both their practical and critical thinking skills to each new challenge.

This Wow Day set the stage for an exciting and engaging term ahead, and we look forward to seeing how the children continue to explore and develop their understanding of rocks, relics, and natural phenomena throughout the topic.
