To celebrate VE day class CRMBr found out about the WRENS in the navy and how they used Morse code and Semaphore to send messages in code. We then used our flags that we had made for the 'street party' to learn the alphabet. We practised by making up short words or using our initials.
We also talked about childhood in the wartime and wondered what it would have been like especially not having any technology. We learnt how to use sticks to play pickup sticks; used stones to play ‘Jacks’ and learnt how to play hopscotch properly. One child found 'Jacks' really testing and reminded us that we needed to persevere, our value for this half term. Another child said that 'pick up sticks' game was a real test of skill. In the end we had a vote for our favourite. 17 children preferred 'pick up sticks', 5 preferred the hopscotch and only 3 liked 'Jacks' but many found it tricky.
