FOREST SCHOOL
WEEK 4 - Class JC
We started the morning discussing fire safety. The children were able to recall the three elements needed to ignite a fire - heat, fuel and oxygen, we call this the fire triangle.
We started the morning discussing fire safety. The children were able to recall the three elements needed to ignite a fire - heat, fuel and oxygen, we call this the fire triangle.
We laid and lit the fire ready for cooking.
Some of the children then helped to prepare some apples and drop scone mixture to cook ready for snack time.
The children then enjoyed making perfumes, being creative with sticks and other ongoing activities.
To round the morning off we gathered around the fire circle to enjoy drop scones and stewed apple before safely extinguishing the fire.

Home Learning Gets fun!
Year 3 have been producing thoughtful homework on our new 'Tremors' topic. The highlights of this week have been a volcano cake as well as an erupting volcano (baking powder and vinegar provided). We have also had a beautiful mountain range made of clay, Earthquake Survival Kits along with a fact file on a female paleontologist Mary Anning. Thank you for supporting your children in their learning journey!
FOREST SCHOOL
WEEK 3 - CLASS JC
We started the morning by searching the wood for animals and recording whether we thought they hibernated or not. We learnt a lot about our woodland animals including baby animal names, whether they are nocturnal or diurnal, what they eat and their shelter names.
Here are some of the fantastic spider webs that the children have made and are now decorating our shelter.

Some children attempted to light their own fairy fire, lots of perseverance and patience was needed.
Lots of free play was accessed throughout the morning including the children using their imagination to transform a stick.

'Super Splash Heroes' drop into SRH!
EYFS, KS1 and Year 3 had a special assembly from ‘Essex and
Suffolk Living Water’. It was a very
engaging, interactive and fun assembly with a very important message about how
to save water. The Super Heroes acted
out a variety of scenarios using songs, rhymes, dancing and music to show us how
to USE WATER WISELY.
The children were taught how to use water wisely in the
garden, the kitchen, and the bathroom.
Super Heroes talking about how much water we can save in the kitchen.
There were also factual clips used to show the children where water actually came from and scientific vocabulary, such as clarification and evaporation, were used to explain where water came from and how it was cleaned for our domestic use.
Top tips included:-
Turn off the water when cleaning your teeth
Spend less time in the shower
Use an aerator inside the tap
Use a ‘save and flush’ bag in the cistern of the toilet
Use containers of water rather than free flowing water such as a bowl in the kitchen sink to wash up or a bucket when cleaning the car and not a hose.

At the end of the assembly, a short question and answer workshop was held to recap the children’s new learning and for them to learn about how much water we can actually save by being ‘Water Wise’. Every drop counts and it is important to work together to spread the message about what we can do to save water.

The “Super Splash Heroes” explained to the children that there are free water saving kits available on line from www.eswater.co.uk.
