'Focus on maths' week

This week, we're celebrating maths by making it a focus on our school.

Each class will be investigating on an area of maths and on Thursday, the children will have an opportunity to share what they've done in a whole school assembly.

Across the school, we follow the White Rose scheme and we're really focusing on true mastery of this wonderful subject.

In Class VW, we discuss what 'tools' we need to use in our toolbox to approach problems, using jottings and different methods to support reaching a solution. We're also looking at the impact of various mathematicians such as Stephen Hawking and Pythagoras.

Indoor Year 6 Athletics competition

The Year 6 children enjoyed participating in the indoor athletics competition at Thomas Mills on Monday. Children took part in various events such as: standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump, speed bounce, chest push, soft javelin, obstacle relay, lap rely, 2 lap relay, 6 lap relay and over relay. All the children should be incredibly proud of themselves for their enthusiasm, team spirit and determination. It was lots of fun, well done to all the children who took part!

Library in a box

Following an informative assembly for the children on Friday, we wanted to share their Library in a Box concept with parents.  The library want help to create and share ideas from the children to help design a new children's area within Framlingham library.  All the children were asked to imagine what and where their perfect library would be... literally anywhere - real or fictitious!

The Library would like the children to have a go at designing a "Library in a box".  The finished library should be no bigger than a shoe box or cereal box.  They can use junk modelling, painting, stick in pictures, photos etc.

Drop off your box at the Library in the week before half term.

Further and more detailed information is being sent via parentmail today.  Happy designing!!

Class VW Letters to the MP

As year 6 are off on their exciting school trip to London next week, they have been writing formal letters to our MP.

They’ve been looking at how to structure their letters, using appropriate language and features. They chose the topic they wanted to write about and drafted their work. They class wrote about a range of issues which were important to them, such as Climate Change, cost of living, etc.

We will be taking our letters to the Houses of Parliament next week and will keep our fingers crossed for responses!

Splendid Skies and Beyond !

As a memorable starter for our new and exciting topic, Reception and Key Stage 1 spent some time cloud spotting and making comparisons between day time and night time skies. Of course, we had to have a cup of hot chocolate to get us in the night time mood whilst we were "star gazing"!

Art Club

The theme for art club last term was abstract art. The talented children in Year 3 created beautiful wall hangings. First, they experimented with designs and then transferred their designs on to material. Next, they painted their designs using bright, bold colours.

Once the designs were complete some of the children highlighted the shapes with black outlines. Finally, each child handmade beads to secure their wall hanging on to a rod. I think you will agree that they have produced some fantastic eye-catching designs.

We look forward to seeing the next group of children and their creations this half term. Art club with the first group of year 4’s will start on Thursday in Miss Turner's classroom. Watch this space!
