Zooming around in class LH!

In class LH, we have been learning about London and cities.  We’ve looked at Lusaka in Zambia and we watched a video of what it’s like in Zambia.  We compared vehicles and cars from each city.

We made our own unique vehicles and all of them have different designs although they were all really good -  there was an army truck, camper van, London bus, racing cars, mechanics lorry and underground train.

We used cardboard and paper and decorated the cuboid net.  We put them together with glue, sellotape and blu-tac.  The axles were made from dowling rods and they were attached to the bottom or through the sides, with a hole punch.  We coloured the wheels and decorated them and slid them onto the dowling rods.

We wrote an evaluation about our vehicles to see how we could improve them.   We all really enjoyed making them and we now know a lot more facts about transport in London and other countries.

Cultural Exchange

WOW! What a wonderful opportunity we've had in school yesterday & today!
Thirty-five students from Shanghai High School came to spend time with us.  They helped us write our names in Chinese, count to ten in Chinese and they shared information about where they live and their culture. There are 25 million people in Shanghai and it is not as big as London - but they do have lots of skyscrapers.
Just hearing them talk in the playground was an experience - their language sounds so different. This is how you say Thank you in Chinese - xiexie
They took lots of photos of the classrooms, displays and corridors - they enjoyed finding out about us too.
Some photos from class JC:

And a few photos from LH...

Year 5 children were very excited about this experience - here are some of their thoughts:
  “It was really fun!”- Oscar
“I enjoyed mixing with people from a different part of the World”- Ben
“They went over things again- they were really kind and helpful”- Maggie
“I learnt how to use my fingers to help me count”- Catherine

JC Science

Class JC have had great fun making circuits in science.  They have had to investigate how to make a lamp light up.  We have then made DIY switches and they can all explain how their switch works.

Learning about Eid.

Two of our pupils in Class CH celebrated the festival of Eid last week. We watched a very interesting DVD to learn all about the festival, followed by a little bit of role play. We then built a fabulous model of a Mosque together.

It's a Mystery!

Audiences were treated to fabulous performances of 'Mystery at Magpie manor' this week.
Our Year 6 children delivered a number of tremendous productions of the musical play at the Headmaster Porter theatre at Framlingham College.
Flapper girls, the missing family silver, long lost relatives, a crumbling manor house, the legacy of the magpies, the rich and famous, Inspector Spectre, Agatha Christie and much much more! What a fun and frivolous production, with some great musical numbers and many hilarious one-liners.
A small selection of images here, but lots more on the website gallery .
Our thanks go to Rufus Owen and John Byer for the terrific photos.

Year 5 Enrichment Day at Thomas Mills

Year 5 were treated to a fun day of Olympic themed workshops and a sports event at the High School yesterday.

Gardening club keep busy

Another busy week in the school vegetable beds

This week was an action packed week again – lots of jobs were completed and crops harvested.

The broad beans were finally ready for harvesting so the plants were pulled up and the beans picked.  After the broad beans were harvested, we then set to in weeding the bed and clearing out any old plants ready for the winter purple sprouting broccoli plants to be planted.  Those who come to gardening club next year will be able to see how these have grown as they won’t be ready for nearly a year!

A team of waterers ensured that all the plants which we put in last week have had a good drink this week, particularly after the dry, hot spell we have just had and we hope they will start to really flourish this week.

The ‘Sweet Peas’ were picked and Mrs Eyles found a small vase so they now adorn the office window – they smell amazing!

Food Glorious Food!

Gardening club enjoy the fruits of their labour.

At gardening club this week 4 crops were harvested.

Five courgettes and two broccoli heads, which the children have been nurturing over the last few weeks, were given to Mrs Aldred in the kitchen. She cooked these for the children today and they were enjoyed at lunch time as an extra vegetable.

The radishes were also pulled and the children noticed how they felt quite spiky!  Each child took home 2 radishes and a bunch of broad beans for them to enjoy with their families.

The peas are fattening nicely in their pods and will be ready before the end of term.

It’s been great fun to see the crops grow and in such a short time.  Many children have been inspired and are growing vegetables at home.
