Hitcham's Head chef

Well the year 5 children continued to impress us in our Hitcham's Head chef competition yesterday. This week we were treated to Sausage plait, Turkey burgers with arab salad and sumac sauce and Spaghetti alla carbonara.
The enthusiasm and excitement of the children was contagious and a wonderful afternoon was had by all, including our guest judges and a large number of visiting teachers. Huge thanks to Mr Ryall and Mrs Chapman this week for doing the impossible judging job.

I'm particularly excited as the children have already told me that they will be practising for next year! I can't wait.

It is the final week next week with the results to be shared after half term.

Nursery Harvest celebration

Today we invited our grown ups in for a special Harvest Celebration! The children sang The farmer gathers, Big red combine harvester and Dingle dangle scarecrow before we said our Harvest prayer. It was wonderful to see so many grown ups coming to support the children, thank you. We were incredibly proud of how well they did!

Our Worship Team

We would like to welcome George to the Worship team this term.
Our thanks go to Robert for all his hard work over the past year.
The Worship team have been busy getting ready for Harvest Festival and work to prepare the poppies for display in the Church.

FOREST SCHOOL

CLASS LH-Week 5

This morning the children re-capped on their senses by enjoying a five senses scavenger hunt. They explored and found natural items such as: a heart shaped object, something that makes music, something warm, something an animal might eat and a scented leaf.

We discussed woodland management and the children helped to remove some shrubs to make room for a large group shelter. They enjoyed learning how to use secateurs and loppers safely.

Some children planted a conker as we decided we needed to replace the shrubs we cut down.
The children learnt that a conker grows in to a horse chestnut tree not a conker tree!

Great perseverance was shown when lighting fairy fires.

On going activities were enjoyed during the morning.

Girls School Games 5-aside Football Tournament 2018

On Thursday, eleven girls took part in a tournament with eight other teams. All of the girls showed incredible resilience, perseverance and bravery. We thank: the School Games team, parents, teachers and Mrs Berry for their support. Both teams played in the semi-finals which lead to penalties. We were awarded second and third place in the tournament, a great result. Well done girls!

Periscopes Up!

Today, Class VW constructed periscopes using either Lego or Polydron.
They had to think about the position of the mirrors carefully and had to think about the law of reflection. Ideally, the mirrors should have been placed at 45 degrees because light always reflects away from a mirror at the same angle that it hits it.

Long Division in Year 6

This week, Class VW have been getting to grips with long division.
Here are some of them working diligently today…

Year 6 Visit the Church

On Thursday, Year 6  visited St. Michaels Church to look for evidence of Jesus which points to the fact that Christians believe Jesus is God incarnate.
They looked at stained glass images, paintings, etc and were able to ask the Reverend Mark Sanders a range of questions in relation to the topic.
Mrs Rowles also talked to the children about the food donations and who they would eventually benefit.

VW Share Session

On Tuesday, Class VW enjoyed their Mexican- themed Share Session.
There were four activities to take part in: making clay pinch pots, making worry dolls (small, hand-made dolls that originate from Guatemala and are also found in Mexico), designing their own Mayan god and some ‘Day of the Dead’ mindfulness activities. Everyone seemed to have a really lovely afternoon!

OPEN DAY FOR PROSPECTIVE PARENTS - FOR ALL YEAR GROUPS

Do come along to see us in action and have a tour of the school.

This event is not just for parents with children due to start in Reception in 2019,

Hitcham's Head Chef

Another week of amazing cooking by the remaining Year 6 children today. Incredibly complex and ambitious dishes were prepared for us of Australian Zucchini slice, Cottage Pie, Chicken soup with noodles and vegetables, Chicken and potato gratin and Meatball melt with linguine. The children excelled themselves again and should be so proud. It was a pleasure to see them at work demonstrating their organisation and cookery skills. The smells were amazing and tempted a number of the staff to pop by at tasting time too.
Thanks again to Mrs Lawley for helping with the judging, an unenviable task!

Next week we welcome the Year 5 chefs. We can't wait.

FOREST SCHOOL

WEEK 4 - CLASS LH

A lovely morning spent at Robin Wood, Class LH enjoyed experiencing a campfire. They helped to prepare drop scones, and stewed apple and blackberries while accessing ongoing activities in the woodland.

Little owls enjoying their own mini campfire.

Watch out for the laser beams!

What an amazing den.

A mud kitchen feast.

Everyone enjoyed campfire cooking before reflecting on the morning, by extinguishing the fire.
