Poetry Workshop

A few of our Year 4,5 & 6 children were fortunate enough to spend an afternoon last week with Reverend Mike Vipond. The time was dedicated to writing poetry and learning about new styles and formats of poetry. The highlight of the afternoon for many of the children was being given an extended period of time to write and experiment with writing styles in a small, quiet and focused group with an expert poet.

"I enjoyed making up my own nursery rhymes"
"It was great having the time to write and create our own poems"
"It was good to learn about previously unknown formats for poetry such as The Victorian Cautionary tales"  - these are poems to alert people to the consequences of doing something they shouldn't do...
"The children in my class absolutely loved the session!"

The finished poems have been displayed in our beautiful new library - do go and have a look.
