Sir Robert Hitcham's have embraced Safer Internet Day this year and have continued to talk to the children about the positive and interactive ways the internet, games, videos and other platforms can be used with success. This is threaded through all computer lessons throughout the year anyway but it has been interesting and good to have a real focus for it this week.
Staff have also spent time this week talking to the children
about online safety, reminders about how to stay safe online. We have reminded them about online etiquette and
how to behave safely online; what to look out for and have had in-depth
discussions, question and answer sessions too.
A range of resources has been used across the school including
Jessie and Friends (Thinkuknow); Oscar’s story (National Online Safety
storybook); BBC teach/Safety Internet
Day video, Digiduck (childnet), Buddy the Dog (Twinkl) and Smartie the Penguin (Childnet).
The activities have included creating posters, role play, a
debate about the pros and cons of avatars and filters, Emoji fans, discussion
about playing personal games, sorting activity about permission/no permission
scenario cards and circle time.
