PARENT CONSULTATION DAY – WEDNESDAY 10 NOVEMBER 2010

THIS LETTER IS GOING TO THE PARENTS OF CHILDREN IN RECEPTION TO YEAR 6

Parent Consultation Day gives everyone the opportunity to celebrate their child’s successes. It is good for the children to participate in the discussion, identifying areas for development and set targets together. This gives our children ‘ownership’ of their learning.

We have decided to hold our day of consultation on Wednesday 10 November and as last year’s arrangements pupils should attend school as normal 8.50am – 3.05pm. The children will be taught during the day by our teaching assistants and supply teachers. We would ask that all children bring a PACKED LUNCH for that day.

Parent Consultations will start at 8.30am and run through to 6.30pm. We are endeavouring to meet the needs of families where both parents work, but obviously the majority of consultations will need to be held during the day when the children are at their best. Please note we will only be able to accommodate one consultation per child on the day.

The interviews will be held in the hall. Parents should collect their child and their child’s tray from the classroom when they arrive and proceed to the hall. We would ask that you arrive a few minutes early to view the work in their tray. As in previous years the pupils attending a consultation will sit with their backs to the ‘waiting chairs’ in the middle of the hall to minimise distraction. Let me assure you that the general noise in the hall will secure confidentiality.

Interviews will be timetabled. Please see information attached. This form must be returned to the school office by Friday 15 October. A letter with the details of when you interviews are will go out week commencing 1 November.

The children will go with their parents to share their work and attend their interview. If you have anything private to say to the teacher that you don’t want your child to hear can I ask that you book another appointment at a separate time. In the interests of Health and Safety we would ask that you sign each child out of the class for the interview and back in when the interview is finished.

The Nursery session will be 8.50am to 11.50am, but please note we will not be able to offer lunch club for this day.

The class teachers will be supplied with information from the set teachers about the work that is carried out in Maths and English sets and will be able to discuss this with parents in the consultation. Mrs Akerman, our SEN Co-ordinator, and Mrs Beddow, our Maths Teacher, will also be available throughout the day, in their rooms, to see parents of children.

During the year parents who have a concern are welcome to phone at any time and book an appointment to talk to a teacher at a mutually convenient time.
