What a wonderful week of Nativities we have had!

All this week the children in Reception, Year 1 & 2 and Nursery have been delivering their own take on the Christmas Story.  Not only have they performed for other classes in the afternoons, but they have also performed for parents and grandparents each morning.

We are so proud of these children, for their confidence in standing up on a stage with the bright lights shining down on them, for their amazing recollection and delivery of their lines, and for the beautiful singing of their Christmas songs.

These Nativities remind us of the magic of Christmas, and the reason we celebrate it - the birth of Jesus, son of God.

Here are a few images from the class Nativities this week, there are many more on the website gallery, and parents will be sent a private link to the video recordings next week.

Well done to all the staff who worked so hard to pull the wonderful nativities together.

Thanks too, to the Friends for hosting refreshments at the start of each performance, and to all the families who donated to the leaving collections for EACH.

Festive Cake Sale today!

Come along for a sweet treat from the pavillion in the front playground after school.

Thanks to the families of ES & JA for the wonderful baking.

Year 5 + 6 House Swimming Gala

On Wednesday, children from Years 5 and 6 competed in the annual inter-house gala at Framlingham College Pool

The children demonstrated  resilience, determination, and perseverance throughout the event.

In the end, Mills emerged as the champions, proudly lifting the coveted trophy, while Bulstrode claimed the runner-up position.

Congratulations to all participants!  We hope the parents enjoyed watching from the gallery this year.

A special thank you goes to Framlingham College Pool and the team there for hosting the event and for supporting our Years 5 and 6 students with their swimming lessons this term.

Handball Competition

On Tuesday the Year 3 and 4's competed in a handball inter-house competition.

The children performed really well considering how muddy, wet and cold it was.

The children showed some great team spirit and played some fantastic handball.

A big well done to Mills who were the winning house.

Football vs Kyson Primary School

The year 5 and 6 boys competed in a football competition on Friday last week at SRH Framlingham.

We had four 6-a-side teams which played against 4 teams from Kyson Primary School.

Two of our teams came joint first in the competition and the other two teams came 3rd and 8th.

There were some outstanding individual performances and some great goals scored from both schools and overall, the boys made the school proud.

Class JA & ES are baking for the sale on Friday.

Remember to bring some pocket money to buy a sweet treat.

Worship Team Assemby

Last week our Worship Team lead our whole school assembly.

They taught the children about St Francis of Assisi.  They told the children how St Francis was a man who lived over 800 years ago, but his teaching had some inspirational ideas.  He wanted people to care for our environment and the world around them.  He wanted everyone to live in peace.

The Worship Team did an amazing job and there was a special appearance from Pumpkin.

Mills House assembly

The house captains and vice-house captains from Mills house led the assembly sharing facts and information about Thomas Mills.  The children shared facts about how the Mills Grammar school and the Thomas Mills High School were started.  They told us how Thomas Mills was instrumental in supporting education in Framlingham and also housing for the poor in the Almshouses.  The Mills Trust still supports  education in Framlingham.

Super Speller Winners so far this term

Lunchtime Sports

In November we started a football lunchtime 'World Cup'. The children play with a chosen partner in a 2 vs 2 match every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime. This will be an ongoing tournament finishing in the summer term with a 'World Cup' final match.

The children have enjoyed playing and watching the other teams and also cheering each other on for support. The matches have been refereed by the Year 6 Play Leaders.

This term we have also started a lunchtime Netball club for the Year 5 and 6 children on every Tuesday and Thursday to get them ready for their competition after Christmas.

Space... the final frontier!

In VW, the children have been learning about Space.

They've investigated the timeline of different models of the Solar System and seen how the views changed over time.

They saw how opinions then gravitated towards the Heliocentric model. They've also looked at the body of evidence presented for Flat Earth and Spherical Earth theories.

Additionally, they've investigated how we experience day and night, creating short explanation texts on the matter.

Cam toys in VW

As part of their learning in Design and Technology, the children set about learning about cam mechanisms in order to design and create a space- themed toy.

The class had a wonderful time doing this, thanks to the expertise of Mrs. Skeggs and Mrs. Lucas.

Have you applied for your child’s school place next year?

If not, we’d love to invite you to visit us to give you a sense of what life is like here at our wonderful school.  At Sir Robert Hitcham’s we recognise that each child is unique, with their own set of gifts and talents. As educators, it is our duty to nurture and develop them all.

Our school is described by parents and visitors as having a ‘happy, friendly and family feel.’  As experienced staff we pride ourselves on knowing the children well, in order to be able to plan, support, inspire and challenge them to be their very best selves.

We are privileged to have a wonderfully committed and experienced team of teaching and support staff, strengthened by our parents, our dedicated Governors and the local community.  This means that all of our children should be able to go out into the world secure in the values that are at the heart of our Christian school.

Our curriculum has community at its heart - it is inclusive, creative and exciting.  The website, Blog and Facebook page, will give you an insight into our school, the range of opportunities for the children and our curriculum.

Do get in touch if you would like to arrange a visit and see for yourself what we offer here at Framlingham Sir Robert Hitcham’s before the application deadline of 15 January 2025.

 Application information:

All of the information parents/carers need to help them make their decision is available on the SCC website at www.suffolk.gov.uk/admissions including information about the School Travel Policy and some School Travel Scenarios.
