On Tuesday, the children were incredibly lucky to welcome author and illustrator Kate Rolfe, who came to share her beautiful new book, Owl and Moon. She read the story aloud and talked about the personal inspiration behind it, explaining that the relationship between the characters was influenced by her own bond with her mum.
Kate also gave us a fascinating insight into the illustration process, telling the children that some illustrations have to be drawn many times before they’re just right. The children asked thoughtful questions about her experiences, and we learnt that Wolf and Bear took 4.5 years to produce, while Owl and Moon took around 1.5 years. She explained how much rewriting and editing goes into each book and shared that she continues to learn and grow as a writer and illustrator.
Kate spoke openly about her creative journey and how her own life experiences have motivated and inspired her work.
A huge thank you to Kate Rolfe for giving our children such a memorable and inspiring visit!
