End of the School Year 2020

Dear Parents and Carers 

…..and so it comes to an end. This extraordinary year at Framlingham Sir Robert Hitcham’s CEVA Primary School. What a year it has been!

Following what I do hope will be a lovely summer holiday for you all we will begin the new term with a new normal. We will take your children on from where they are socially, emotionally and academically and as with every other child in the country we will begin to rebuild their learning alongside processing their ‘lock-down experiences’

We are all so excited that the whole school will be together but there will be a number of changes which we will try to guide you through in September.

In the meantime I wish you all a happy summer holiday hopefully catching up with family and friends whilst staying safe.

Year 6 Leaver's Celebration Picnic

As the time arrives for us to say 'goodbye' to our Year 6 children, we are so grateful to be able to be together to celebrate the end of their Primary school years on our wonderful school field. 

Our usual venue of St Michael's Church sadly could not be used, and the need to spread the children out for social distancing hopefully didn't detract too much from the special reason they were all together.

A picnic, some craft activities, poems, stories and messages all interwoven to combine memories of their time spent in our school.  Parents joined for the last part of the afternoon as gifts and prizes were handed out to the children.

A final goodbye today too, to Mrs Akerman our wonderful Year 6 teacher and SENDco who retires today after many years at Sir Robert Hitcham's.  She will really be missed by all the staff here.

We'd like to wish all our Year 6 children a really fun summer holiday and a happy and successful start at their High School in September.

Virtual Sports Day - House Winners

Reception Summer Picnic

Another cloudy sky and some damp grass didn't detract from the fun our Reception children had at yesterday's lunchtime picnic. 

It was so lovely for the teachers to see the children again, such a special experience for everyone to enjoy - singing songs, readings stories, making bookmarks and catching up with friends.

What a lovely time everyone had!

Year 1 & 2 Summer Picnic

A cloudy sky didn't detract from the sunny smiles on the faces of our Year 1 and 2 children at today's lunchtime picnic. They were all delighted to get back together with their friends and the teaching teams.

Some of the teachers from next year's Year 3 classes, also came along to say hello to the Year 2 children who will be in their classes in September.

Mrs Doy, our lovely KS1 Teaching Assistant who is retiring, joined us at the picnic so that everyone could say their goodbyes and wish her well as they gave her cards, flowers and gifts.

What a lovely time everyone had.

Year 5 Summer Picnic

Although the ground was a bit damp it didn't detract from the enjoyment of our Year 5 children as they met up on the field for a socially distanced get-together this morning.

The children all had a lovely catch up with each other and the teaching staff, the only sad bit of the day was saying goodbye to Mrs Trott who leaves us this term, but the children all gave her a big send off as she was presented with her card, flowers and gift from the school.

Year 3 & 4 Class Summer Picnic

We were so lucky with the weather today for the picnics for Mrs Cann's class, Mrs Webster's class and Mrs Venton & Mrs Ambrose's class.

It was so nice for the teachers and children to get together to catch up (socially distanced of course) for one last time before the summer on our wonderful school field.  

We are looking forward to the Year 5 picnic on Tuesday morning, the Year 1 & 2 picnic on Tuesday lunchtime, the Reception picnic on Wednesday lunchtime and finishing with the Year 6 Leavers Celebration Picnic on Friday.

The day will consist of three events.

We have brightened up our fence along College Road with the help of some of the children in school, by planting up these pretty containers.

UNIFORM ORDERING

Our uniform supplier would like to recommend to parents not to leave uniform orders until July/August, but to place them ASAP.  Their production levels are impacted currently and they are expecting a surge in demand in the summer which will impact on deliveries for September.  

They strongly recommend you place your uniform orders now, during June.

School is open to some year groups

Last week we reopened our school doors to children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 as well as those children of Critical Workers who we have been supporting since shutdown.
The children who returned have settled really well into their slightly different environment in their small 'bubble' groups, and we look forward to another week of learning with them.
Please do NOT bring your child to school unless you have booked them in and we are expecting them as we will need notice to re-arrange rooms to make space for further additions.
Home Learning for those not in school will continue to be communicated via ParentMail directly and this term we have launched a whole school learning project ‘All Creatures Great and Small’.
Home learning documents, plus links to other resources, are also saved on the 'School at Home' Learning Resources page under the 'Our Learning' tab. (This page is password protected - the password was re-sent via ParentMail on Monday 1 June)

Nesting Birds in lockdown

During the lockdown period, Miss Whipps has been fortunate enough to witness new life commencing on her window ledge - here is her story:

I expect many of you have seen lots of wonderful things recently, too.  A nest was carefully crafted out of a variety of small twigs by a blackbird (I believe) in order to provide a safe home for the imminent arrival of her babies. 

Usually the nests are made by the female bird, who seemingly shapes them around her own body. She has to utilise her incredible dexterity for this task- her only tool is her beak!  

Soon enough, there were 4 blue eggs.  It seemed such a strange place to position a nest as this ledge is situated next to my stairs, which means that myself and my children travel up and down them frequently. 

Eventually and one by one, they hatched: being able to watch the various stages of growth has been such a privilege. 

About a week and a half ago, the fledglings vacated after being carefully nourished by their parents. Now, there are another 4 eggs in the nest! 

I will keep you updated on their progress.

Scam emails re COVID-19

The following message is now on the Department for Education website: 

“Be aware of scam emails - We have been informed that some parents have received an email stating the following: 

'As schools will be closing, if you’re entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we’ll make sure you’re supported’. 

We can confirm that this is a scam email and is not official. 

We urge parents that if you receive any emails like this, please do not respond, and delete it immediately.” 

COVID-19 NHS & Public Health England Advice

COVID-19 Response - School is now closed

Childcare will continue ONLY for children of Critical Workers and vulnerable children.

Please do NOT bring your child to school unless we have confirmed we are expecting them.

Home Learning will be communicated via ParentMail.

Most importantly, please remember the reason for this closure is to reduce social contact that would spread the COVID-19 disease.

Families and friends should take all precautions to ensure that social distancing is maintained, especially contact with the elderly and most vulnerable in your family and the community. 

It is essential that families with symptoms self-isolate for 14 days. NHS advice regarding hand washing is still of utmost importance wherever you are.

At this point we do not know how long the School Closure will last. We will continue to regularly keep you updated through ParentMail.

Castles in Class LH - report from 19 March

Report from 19 March - this report was delayed due to the urgent posts needed in the run up to the school closure.

Class LH have been busy as part of their 'Towers, Turrets and Tunnels' topic designing and making their own castles.  Following our successful trip to Framlingham Castle, we came back and talked about all the different parts of a castle and what they were used for eg battlements., portcullis, drawbridge, arrow slits, curtain and the moat.  We then drew a labelled picture of a castle that we would like to live in.  

We also designed our own castle on the computers using Revelation Art.  

As part of the DT, we looked at a range of mechanical moving toys and worked out how to use a pulley system to open and close the drawbridge and the portcullis.   We planned and designed our castles with the moving parts. 

This afternoon we shared what we'd learnt with each other about the difficulties and how we overcame them. We celebrated want went well and were able to talk about each other castles and what we liked about them.  

SCHOOL CLOSURE

School will be closed to almost all children from Monday 23 March.

Childcare will only be for children of eligible Key Workers (awaiting Government definition), those with an EHC Plan or Social Worker who are unable to make other childcare arrangements. A ParentMail FORM will be sent to gather this information today.

At this point we do not know how long this closure will last.

Home Learning will be communicated via ParentMail by Monday.

Those currently self-isolating should continue isolation for the full 14 days.

WEEK 4 - CLASS KM

' A Gruffalo! What's a Gruffalo? ' The children in Class KM enjoyed creating their own Gruffalo using natural materials from the woodland. They did very well at remembering all the different features.

After introducing hammers to the children last week we continued with these making something special for our Mums.

A muddy morning at Robin Wood! The children used mud and natural resources to create their own Gruffalo face on a tree as well as creating some mud paint pictures. They also had the opportunity to use a hammer and nails to create some patterns on wood.
