DT, ART & SCIENCE Morning at Framlingham College

On Tuesday, Year 6 were invited to spend a morning at Framlingham College and took part in a range of activities. These included printing, using the workshop to create device holders out of perspex with a strip heater and programming robots.

The children had a fabulous morning and gained a lot of new skills.

A huge thank you to Framlingham College for hosting such a wonderful event, and for providing a number of these photographs.

Thank You Mrs Clarke!

As a school, we have been very lucky to have the dedicated service of Mrs Clarke as our Chair of Governors for the last 8 years.

She has worked tirelessly with the Governing Body to deliver their responsibilities and has been truly lovely in her care and support of the school staff and the children.

We wish her all the best as she leaves our school for a well deserved retirement, and will miss seeing her in school.

DT & French in Class LHMBr

As designers, Class LH/MBr Year 3's have been incredibly busy designing, making and tasting a healthy meal. The children worked hard to complete a balanced plate of food based on the ‘Eatwell guide’. They used skills including using the claw grip and bridge grip to chop, grate and prepare the food. We ensured we had the right amount of protein, fruit and vegetables and carbohydrates on our plate and then of course the best part of the learning…eating!

Class LH/MBr are loving learning French with Mrs. Lucas. For the European Day of Languages we learnt about how popular cheese is in France. We tried three different types of cheese: Boursin, Brie and Camembert. Bon Appetit!

Are you looking for your child's first school?

Applications for children joining a Reception Class in September 2024 are now open through Suffolk Admissions.

If you are considering where would best suit your child for their education, then we would love you to visit us to take a look around.

We are a successful and well-resourced CEVAP School of 350 children, in the delightful market town of Framlingham. We have a dedicated team staff and enthusiastic pupils who are confident and motivated. Our teachers support a wide range of extra-curricular activities which enhance the breadth of opportunities available to our children. We have an intake of up to 50 Reception pupils in each academic year.

If you are new to the school, please contact us to arrange to join one of our small group tours in October or November, where we can show you around our wonderful school.

On your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to see our extensive school facilities including our fabulous school field with our Robin Wood area, our magnificent Music Ark, our curriculum kitchen, our two large playgrounds and of course our super Reception classes and their dedicated outside areas.  You’ll also get to meet the terrific team that we have in Reception and see the children in action in the classes.

In June 2023, we were delighted that our recent Ofsted inspection again was graded as ‘Good’, defining us as “a happy and friendly school”, where “pupils enjoy their learning and the time they spend together”.

Specifically, they noted that in Early Years the adults “guide children’s learning through thoughtful questions that help children extend their thinking and their play” and our “well-chosen books and stories expose children to rich language from a young age” and that our Early Years team “support children well to use accurate and precise sounds when learning to read”.

An AMAZING time rolling around M-Club!!!

The ‘M’ club is a lunchtime club which focuses on well-being and mental health.  The idea is that each week there will be a different activity beginning with the letter 'M'.

Our first get together we enjoyed playing MARBLES and learning the rules of how to play a proper game.

This week we enjoyed the challenge of tackling a variety of MAZES and working out the correct route for a variety of scenes  – some were a lot trickier than others.  Great perseverance and teamwork shone through!!

Cake Stall TODAY

Classes VW & SBr have baked some delicious cakes and cookies for today's Friends Cake Sale on the front playground after school!

Science in VW

In Science, the children have been learning about the refraction of light.

Last week, we attempted to use prisms in order to separate white light into its individual colours and understood that red bends the least as it has a longer wavelength.

Today, we essentially tried to do this in 'reverse' by creating colour wheels. We coloured the wheels in order of wavelength (red= longest, violet= shortest) and then attached to card. String was put through the centre and the children had to figure out the best method of spinning them as fast as possible in order for the colours to appear white.  The children hypothesised what the outcome was likely to be.

Greensleeves - Magnificent Monarchs videos

On Monday, KS2 children took part in a 'Wow' day to introduce our new topic for the term, 'Magnificent Monarchs'. On the day, the children rotated round a carousel of activities including collage, singing, art and dancing to 'Greensleeves'. With the Greensleeves workshop, the children gained a bit more of an understanding about the origins of the tune, learning that some historians theorised that it could have been written by Henry VIII for his second wife, Ann Boleyn, although others disagree. We listened to the tune on the lute, making observations about the repetitive nature, beat and melody. Then, the children paired up and started learning some simple moves, thinking about timing, posture and working together. The children got into small groups and incorporated some of their own moves and created their own themed routines.

Class CR This Term

Class CR have been settling in to the Autumn term and sharing lots of different activities together.

Learning to be musicians playing the clarinet with Mr Kershaw.

Developing our cutting skills and learning about healthy eating - even more fun when we got to eat it!

As travel agents we worked collaboratively making posters about visiting Framlingham….     and as geographers we shared our holiday destinations and discussed the different areas of the world.

Sport has been great fun practising our skills in hockey.

We’ve performed poetry and made up poems of our own.

During International language day we had a visit from Ksenia who told us so much about the Ukranian language and culture.

Finally, just this week we had our fabulous History WOW day when we were artists, dancers, singers and designers all for our new topic of Magnificent Monarchs.

Key Stage 2 'reign' supreme on their 'Wow' day!

Key Stage 2 had an exciting day to launch their new topic – Magnificent Monarchs.

Mrs Beddow introduced the topic with an assembly where she explained what a Monarch and Monarchy are and how during this project, the children will learn about the English and British monarchy from AD 871 to the present day.

To launch this we had a day of carousel activities which all the children experienced moving around and working together in their houses.

Miss Whipps and Mrs Brown lead a dancing workshop learning a medieval court dance to ‘Greensleeves’ written by Henry VIII.

Mr Snowdon and Mrs Rolfe created collages of various monarchs throughout the era recycling fabric and other materials.

Mrs Beddow and Ms Brierly lead a workshop on making Crowns and explained the importance of Crowns to a monarch.

Mr Mulrennan and Mrs Borg lead a singing workshop where the children learnt "Monarchs Song” from Horrible Histories naming all the Kings and Queens of England from William the Conqueror.
