Keith Harring Art Day

On Thursday the 11 th of June two children were picked from each class to represent their class and paint the 1.3 m boards which when glazed and dried are going to be hung in our year 6 courtyard ,so look out for them next time your in school in the future . At 9 o’clock we where sent to the upstairs activity area where we would paint the boards and outline the boards in thick black lines .we would use acrylic paints to paint the boards as acrylic paints are normally very bright and colourful which is what we were aiming for .Once Mrs Evans, Our project manager had explained to us which colours we where using and how we would paint them and how the day would run we where aloud to follow the designs she had created and started to paint them following the colours she had picked . Once we had a hitch free first coat on the boards we had lost all our energy and we had nothing left to do until the first coat had finished drying so we had a brain storm and decided that we would find some computers and visit the Tate kids website which we could play the games which were all related to art and one very popular game was a game called street art where we could create our own street art.

This movie below shows all the entries. A film showing the children working on the project will follow shortly.

After break we continued painting the main blocks of colour because our first coat we had painted had drying and already looked great as the colours were bright but the colours were rather streaky as we hadn’t done the second coat but as we started painting we had a few problems but they were fixed by Mrs. Evans after we had finished outlining and painting the main colours but after the first coat without it dried it looked really bright and colourful and definitely would stand out in the crowd . Then we had a few minutes when we done a little bit of touching up and cutting up of the designs that weren’t picked to be incorporated in the main designs.

Once the main coat had finished after lunch we then had to make it like Keith Harring’s original art and outline every important line in a thick black line to make the colours stand out even more than just the normal colour but this job was very important as this needs a very steady hand so this job took about twice along to do as we took a lot more care than the colour but with every job we done that day we took a lot of care but this job was very important because that would make it a signature piece . Then once our black line were done we had to make sure that the black line wasn’t to thick and in places it wasn’t streaky .then we quickly went over the lines to make sure the looked even more great then they did before so once we had cleared up we had time do try a great project which Mr. Evans thought us using sticky backed plastic and sticking tissue paper on it then you back it with white paper the you draw your design on the sticky backed plastic with permanent marker then you have a great picture that you can keep it and be proud of it .
Then we cleared up the amount mess we had made over the day and admired the wonderful work we had done over the day.

This day was a wonderful experience we our all going to remember for many years and our very grateful that we were picked , lets just hope that these plaques will last for many years and will brighten up the courtyard for many years to come .
