Nursery and Reception's trip to Foxburrow Farm

EYFS had a lovely trip to Foxburrow Farm yesterday. The children were surrounded by nature and had such fun making sweet smelling potions, using their senses to explore the gardens and learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. It was wonderful to see the children engaging in these outdoor activities with such enthusiasm and excitement.

Ted - Ready for Travel

Ted, our Bear for Gaza, has had a little makeover!

Mrs Reeve, who worked at our school for many years, has so kindly knitted a school jumper for Ted, and we've added a House Captains badge for him to wear when he is shipped to Gaza.

Rev'd Chris and the Church are busy finding a route to get him to an orphan in Gaza.  Ted is sent with the love and hugs of everyone at school and at the Church.

Year 5 ‘cellists at Suffolk’s WCET Festival

Bright and early on Monday morning, 41 ‘cellists, 41 ‘ cellos plus staff and our music governor, Mrs Lavery, set off by coach to Trinity Park at Ipswich for the annual WCET Festival.

Our year 5 ‘cellists were able to showcase the pieces that they have been learning in their weekly lessons with Mr Slatter as part of an orchestra of 303 primary children from 11 primary schools from all over Suffolk.

They played, Waltz through Paris, I’m a Believer, WCET Fiesta and Ode to Joy.

We were the only school who have been learning the ‘cello and the other schools were playing a variety of brass, woodwind and tuned percussion instruments.

They had learnt the parts for these pieces on their instruments. When all the schools played and sang together, it sounded fantastic. The orchestra rehearsed all morning, led by the County Music teachers, had a picnic at lunchtime and then put on a concert in the afternoon for parents and carers.

The children also learnt a new folk song which the whole orchestra sang in two parts.

Our SRH musicians were amazing and their behaviour and attitude was fantastic.

Thank you Year 5 and thank you to Mrs Lavery for volunteering to support with the day.

KS1 Trip to Jimmy's Farm

On Friday KS1 enjoyed a visit to Jimmy’s Farm. On a wet arrival, we were met by our Rangers, who talked to us about various habitats and animals throughout the farm. As it brightened up, we were able to explore the farm and all it had to offer. We had a lovely picnic in the sunshine before discovering the rest of the surroundings. We looked closely at the plants in each habitat which provided links to our current topic ‘Scented Garden’. The children particularly enjoyed seeing the brown bears and polar bears, as well as walking through the butterfly house. Thank you to all the helpers that made this day possible!

Moana Jr – Celebrating Our Talented Performers!

This Sunday, three of our present and past talented pupils will be taking to the stage in a performance of Moana Jr at the Seckford Theatre. Current pupils Viviana and Chloe, along with former pupil Adriana, will be showcasing their incredible acting, singing, and dancing skills in this exciting production.

We are extremely proud of their hard work, dedication, and creativity in preparing for this show. Taking part in a public performance is a fantastic achievement, and it’s wonderful to see our pupils growing in confidence and shining.

We wish Viviana, Chloe and Adriana the very best of luck for the performance and hope they thoroughly enjoy their time on stage.

Visit from Major Squirrel – KS2 Assembly

Today, KS2 welcomed Major Squirrel from The Salvation Army, who led an inspiring assembly about life in Malawi.

He introduced us to a boy named Blessing, who walks to school by 7 a.m. each day and must pay to attend. Sometimes, the only meal he receives is a simple maize porridge. Blessing loves writing poetry, and if he forgets his pencil, he has to return home—highlighting his incredible perseverance and passion for learning.

Major Squirrel also showed us Malawi on the globe and spoke about projects like the building of a children’s centre to support vulnerable young people and prevent child labour.

Very kindly, he donated 'The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind' to our Year 6 library—a true story about a Malawian boy who built a windmill to power his home.

We are very grateful to Major Squirrel for visiting and helping us reflect on how fortunate we are.

Year 6: Parliament Visit and Budgeting Workshop

Yesterday, Years 5 and 6 had a visit from Kelly, who works with the Parliament Outreach Programme. The children learned a lot, including that there are 650 MPs and the difference between the House of Commons and the House of Lords. We discovered that the role of Parliament is to monitor what the government does.

It was fascinating to learn about the different ways young people can get involved in Parliament, and the children had the opportunity to respond to a petition set up by a secondary school pupil about reducing the school week to four days—you can imagine how they voted!
On Thursday afternoon, Year 6 (Class VW this week) took part in a workshop led by Julia, who represented Christians Against Poverty. The children learned about a range of important financial topics, including income, budgeting, expenditure, tax, and much more.
A huge thank you to Julia and her team for joining us this afternoon—we look forward to welcoming you back for our follow-up sessions.

Inspirational Kylie Grimes

Kylie Grimes, who has competed in three Paralympic Games for Wheelchair Rugby and was the first woman in the world to achieve a gold medal in the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, visited the school this week.   She started with a truly inspirational assembly telling us what makes a good athlete, the lifestyle, healthy eating and well-being followed by information about her journey.  She has been such an incredible role model to children and staff alike; her positivity and inspirational values that she shared have certainly had a great impact on the whole school.   All the children completed a set of circuits from nursery up to year 6 whilst being cheered on by other classes.

We would like to thank ‘The Friends’ who have supported this fabulous event.
