Bright and early on Monday morning, 41 ‘cellists, 41 ‘ cellos plus staff and our music governor, Mrs Lavery, set off by coach to Trinity Park at Ipswich for the annual WCET Festival.
Our year 5 ‘cellists were able to showcase the pieces that they have been learning in their weekly lessons with Mr Slatter as part of an orchestra of 303 primary children from 11 primary schools from all over Suffolk.
They played, Waltz through Paris, I’m a Believer, WCET Fiesta and Ode to Joy.
We were the only school who have been learning the ‘cello and the other schools were playing a variety of brass, woodwind and tuned percussion instruments.
They had learnt the parts for these pieces on their instruments. When all the schools played and sang together, it sounded fantastic. The orchestra rehearsed all morning, led by the County Music teachers, had a picnic at lunchtime and then put on a concert in the afternoon for parents and carers.
The children also learnt a new folk song which the whole orchestra sang in two parts.
Our SRH musicians were amazing and their behaviour and attitude was fantastic.
Thank you Year 5 and thank you to Mrs Lavery for volunteering to support with the day.
