Egg investigation

Yesterday we did an activity in Nursery comparing hen eggs and duck eggs. We looked closely and touched the shells, talking about what was the same and what was different and thinking about the size and colour. The children then made a prediction of what might be inside the eggs.
We then cracked open the eggs and looked at the yolk and the white. Two of the eggs had been cooked in boiling water so they were hard boiled and we talked about the changes from a runny liquid to solid and a clear white to a white white. We also felt the hard boiled eggs and the children were excited to see the yolk inside when I cut them in half. We used the language comparisons soft and hard, rough and smooth, hot and cold, liquid and solid and also used the language slippery, runny, yolk and white.
At the end of the day we cooked the eggs in the microwave to make scrambled eggs and enjoyed tasting them!

Spring walk

Nursery managed to go on a Spring walk around school on 26th February, before the snow came. We had to look closely for any signs of Spring. We were very excited to spot lots of buds on the trees and even some flowers, finding crocuses, daffodills, narcissi, daisies and primroses. We are looking forward to another walk at the end of term to see if we can spot any changes.

Photography Club Year 3 and 4

The year 3 and 4 photography club has been really exciting this term.  Amongst other things, we have been looking at how to take close up photos, understanding how the cameras work and how we can change settings.

This week we have been using the cameras to make animation films.  We used Lego to build our Legoman and then made him move.  Most of the children mastered this challenging activity and were able to upload their sequences after a careful and sometimes frustrating session setting up the Legoman in exactly the right spot!  The children all showed true determination and resilience and were able to produce a sequence of photographs ready for their animation productions next week.

SC Share Session - Egyptian Pots

Class SC enjoyed an afternoon sharing their learning with their parents, recently.
The children had designed some Ancient Egyptian pots during their art lesson and they used their designs to create a clay pot with their parents.
Some of the designs were very ambitious and so they had to adapt them as they worked with the clay.
They produced some superb pots that reflected the designs of artefacts from Ancient Egypt.

Street Detectives

This morning, class AB took a walk around Framlingham. The children had to hunt for old and new building and some of their features such as doors, chimneys and even door knockers. The children took the cameras so that they could take pictures of the things some of the things they saw. Here are some of the things they found. Have you seen these in Framlingham? Do you know where you might find them?

String Superstars

A huge well done to our wonderful string players who took part in Mrs Fell’s Concert on Wednesday.

You all impressed us with your musicality and the  confidence that you had in playing so beautifully in front of an audience. A testament to your teacher, Mrs Fell!

We also had the treat of hearing our string quartet (trained by Mrs Fell), who are performing at Snape alongside our Boys’ Choir –The Firebirds.

Here are a few photos from yesterday's tournament.

Snow Closure - Day 3

The school will be closed again on Friday 2 March
due to the dangerous conditions caused
by snow and ice.
When bad weather causes us to close, we will also send you a text message and an email via ParentMail.

We make every possible effort to ensure that the school remains open, but many of the staff live a
considerable distance away and make difficult cross-country journeys each day. This may make it difficult
for us to have a fully-staffed school in the event of bad weather.

Safer Internet Day 2018

This week marked international “Safer Internet Day” with various events within the school.

In class, discussions were held to highlight how children can stay safe online with reminders given about their previous learning and this has been built upon as appropriate depending on each year group.

Key Stage 2 used video resources or role play situations to engage the learning and deepen the understanding with the children. A great deal of discussion amongst older groups in dealing with specific situations also took place.

Key stage 1 created internet posters and identified key facts that should not be given away online or to friends to help stay safe online.

Advice was given to our early years and nursery children using "Smartie the Penguin" to help.

Alongside these class based activities, we held the parent’s session run by the NSPCC in which the workshop enabled parents to identify how to keep their children safe online. We will continue to keep parents updated via parentmail throughout the year with various resources and facts too.

Within the school, we also had an online poster competition this half term.  The winners will be announced in assembly after half term.

The safer internet day is an international event but actually here at Sir Robert Hitcham's our internet safety learning continues from the beginning to the end of each academic year, not just on one day!  Online safety is discussed regularly throughout the year when children are using devices within the school and staff have regular updates too.
