A web of activity in Robin Wood!

Class LH were all very excited to be going to Robin Wood for Forest Schools.  Luckily the weather was dry and sunny and we had a great morning exploring the wood.

Mrs Waddell showed us how to make spiders in their webs.  We used conkers for their bodies and had to use a palm drill to make the hole carefully in the conker wearing special gloves to stay safe.  It was tricky feeding the pipe cleaners through the hole in the conker to create their legs.  The web was made from wool wrapped around sticks and we had to really concentrate winding the wool around to make the webs even.  Look at our amazing webs in the pictures.

After this, we then “got busy” - we enjoyed the digging area; role play with the woodland fairies and toys; den building; bug hotel making; balancing in the hammocks; creating an obstacle course, and of course cooking in the mud kitchen – ‘The British Bake Off’ had better watch out with the creations that were being made and served in the cafe.

We finished with a lovely warm cup of hot chocolate and biscuit which we were really ready for!!

Football Tournament

On Monday the Year 5 and 6 boys took part in the HSSSP Football Competition where they played lots of games throughout the morning at Hartismere High School.

Both of our teams were very determined and showed fantastic teamwork and didn't let the rain put them off!

All of the children demonstrated their passion and skills for football as well as great sportsmanship. It was lots of fun!  Well done SRH Year 5 and 6 boys!

Cross Country

Last week the children took part in a cross-country event with lots of other schools at Framlingham College.

The children ran either 1 and a quarter miles or 1 and half miles.

All of the children showed determination and resilience and encouraged each other as they approached the finish line. It was such a wonderful afternoon and so great to see so many keen runners.

It was a huge achievement for each child and they all should be very proud of themselves. It was lots of fun!

MS and MB's Creative Share Session

Today class MS and MB had their share sessions. Together we created a piece of artwork inspired by Giles Davies and Remembrance Day. This involved the children creating a collage of a poppy field using layers of magazine cuttings of different colours and tones. The children and adults all had a fantastic time and have already asked when they will be able to do it again!

“Whizz, Bang, Pop” go Class LH!

Class LH’s new topic ‘Childhood’ started this week alongside some learning about fireworks and the reason why we celebrate Guy Fawkes.  Some of us found it strange to understand that Bonfire Night is a time to celebrate someone’s failure – when we usually celebrate successes!

As writers, we wrote an acrostic poem about fireworks and created some thought provoking and meaningful ideas, reinforcing how to stay safe and why we have fireworks. Here is a combination of some of the lines taken from across the class.

Fireworks light up the sky and they are bright. (Freddie B)

I think fireworks are colourful and beautiful. (George)

Remember to keep our pets and animals inside. (Isabelle)

Each and every firework is different. (Polly)

White smoke from the fire. (Ethan)

Octopus-shaped fireworks. (Alfie)

Remember Guy Fawkes. (Gus)

Keep warm with your coat and hat. (Gladness)

Sparkly fireworks are glittering in the sky. (Millie)

As Sportspeople, we have started dance and hockey this half term.  As dancers, we stayed with the firework theme and created two dances using different movements from fireworks – controlled circular actions of the Catherine Wheels and vertical shooting motions for the rockets and cascade fireworks.

As artists, we created firework pictures using chalks and oil pastels to recreate the movement of the fireworks in the sky using a subtle smudging effect to add detail. A few were finished off with carefully placed sequins to add a glittery sparkly feel to them.  Ella, Harriet and Delilah’s pictures are below.
