Class LH’s new topic ‘Childhood’ started this week alongside some learning about fireworks and the reason why we celebrate Guy Fawkes. Some of us found it strange to understand that Bonfire Night is a time to celebrate someone’s failure – when we usually celebrate successes!
As writers,
we wrote an acrostic poem about fireworks and created some thought provoking
and meaningful ideas, reinforcing how to stay safe and why we have fireworks.
Here is a combination of some of the lines taken from across the class.
Fireworks light up the sky and they
are bright. (Freddie B)
I think fireworks are colourful and
beautiful. (George)
Remember to keep our pets and animals
inside. (Isabelle)
Each and every firework is different.
(Polly)
White smoke from the fire. (Ethan)
Octopus-shaped fireworks. (Alfie)
Remember Guy Fawkes. (Gus)
Keep warm with your coat and hat.
(Gladness)
Sparkly fireworks are glittering in
the sky. (Millie)
As Sportspeople, we have started dance and hockey this half term. As dancers, we stayed with the firework theme and created two dances using different movements from fireworks – controlled circular actions of the Catherine Wheels and vertical shooting motions for the rockets and cascade fireworks.
As artists, we created firework pictures using chalks and oil pastels to recreate the movement of the fireworks in the sky using a subtle smudging effect to add detail. A few were finished off with carefully placed sequins to add a glittery sparkly feel to them. Ella, Harriet and Delilah’s pictures are below.
