SCHOOl SWIMMING POOL

Our swimming pool is now 25 years old, and we have been advised that it is in need of a substantial refit to bring it up to an acceptable standard which meets Health & Safety legislation.
Last year, due to a combination of plant failure and the bad weather, the water temperature only reached the minimum required level on 24 days during the summer term, and on some of these occasions we had insufficient volunteers for our children to be able to use the pool.
Due to this we have explored expanding our use of the indoor pool at Framlingham College. Currently our Year 5 and 6 classes have 5 weeks of lessons each during the spring term. After Easter, we have arranged to extend this provision to Years 3 and 4, and classes RV, KV and PLDD will swim on a Wednesday morning for 5 weeks. They will be taught in groups of 8-10 pupils, by fully qualified swimming instructors from the college.
After half term we intend to take Year 2 pupils to the pool for 2 sessions, to see how well this facility works for the younger age groups.
By exploring this option this summer, it will give us more time to consider the future of our own pool here at Sir Robert Hitcham’s.
We will be reviewing the future of swimming lessons through the parent council – please feed back your comments through your class representative.
