I am Warrior WOW

On Tuesday 10th September, Classes VWe, LC and KVJA re-enacted a battle between the Romans and the Celts on the school field. The Celts (Year 3’s) were given pretend money to hide around the field. The Romans (Year 4’s) had to capture the Celts by placing a sticker on them. The Romans then had to the Celts hidden money.

We had lots of fun re-enacting the invasion and using our battle shields.

Splendid walk for the season detectives in Class LH.

Class LH went for a 'splendid' walk to Robin Wood to launch the new topic of 'Splendid Skies'. We were looking for evidence that autumn is approaching and changes in the weather.  We found some leaves turning brown, a few bushes with rose-hips on and blackberries which the birds will enjoy.

We also observed the weather and looked at the clouds and the wind.  Unfortunately, the clouds were difficult to see as the sky was all white and there was a slight, light drizzle but our "season detectives" were not phased.  The detectives commented that over the weekend they had all seen different clouds in the blue skies.  We also discussed how strong the wind was and noted how different it has been over the past few days.

It was a great way to launch the new topic and we can't wait to  go back later on in the term and see how the environment has changed again during the autumn.

FOREST SCHOOL

CLASS CMRH - WEEK 1

Class CMRH had a lovely first morning exploring and investigating at Robin Wood.

Reading in school

The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.

This Dr Seuss message hopefully inspires our children to read their way through our extensive and exciting reading scheme!

Who's Who?

Class KVJA are creating a super display in their class - can you recognise who's who?

Leaver's Service

A wonderful finish to the Year 6's time at school today with their Leaver's Service at St Michael's Church.
Proud families looked on as the children shared their memories, experiences and so much more from their time at our school.
We all wish every one of them success and happiness in their future and hope they have a wonderful time as they move up to High School.

Parting Gifts

Mrs Colchester has bought a wonderful carved wooden Owl for the children and the school, it is currently nestled under a tree near the hall for all to see.

She has also very kindly purchased 2 outdoor clocks for the playgrounds.

Thank you, Mrs Colchester!

Retiring Deputy Head Teacher ~ 25 Years at our school

Here’s the story from our retiring Deputy Head Teacher - Mrs Jane Colchester - who sadly leaves us at the end of term:

"Coming from the East End of London to leafy Suffolk was a bit of a culture shock but a very pleasant one.  It is with mixed emotions that I “hang up my boots” after 25 years at Sir Robert Hitcham’s primary school.
“Give it two years and see how it goes” a friend said and here I still am – somehow Framlingham inveigled its way into my heart and there it has stayed.
I have been very fortunate to work with inspirational colleagues, dedicated governors and a hardworking group of ‘Friends of the School’. The local community, the villages and Churches too have supported and enriched my experience.  But at the centre of everything have been the children I have taught.  There have been challenges but rich rewards in seeing children achieve and flourish.  It is lovely to hear how past pupils have fared and what they are doing.
As deputy head I have been lucky enough to have the best class in the school every year too.
Recently teaching some of the children of pupils I taught when I first came to Sir Robert Hitcham’s has been a real pleasure but also reminded me how time has flown, as it always does when you have fun."

The Headteacher and staff team at the school will miss Jane’s experience and dedication and send her heartfelt wishes to enjoy her retirement.

Mrs Colchester enjoying her new garden seat - which was one of her retirement (& long service award) gifts, along with some lovely cushions and garden vouchers, book tokens, an afternoon tea treat and more!  Donations came from Staff, ex-staff, Governors and Parents - Mrs Colchester was delighted & overwhelmed by the generosity.

Thank you for your generosity

Thank you to all the wonderful families of our Year 6 leavers who have donated so generously to enable us to buy these 8 sets of microscopes & slides.
In addition we still have a substantial additional donation that we will put towards a further science purchase.

A 'Turner' in Framlingham?

We are thrilled with our new jungle art work in the 'Hitcham Secret Hangout'.
The school council consulted all the pupils on what they wanted and Miss Turner, one of our very artistic Higher Level Teaching Assistants, took all their ideas and painted a wonderful design.
Diss Town & Country Printers enlarged the design to print on giant panels and installed it on our playground, brightening up the space.  The Friends of the school have funded the work, and we are really grateful to them for this.
We are thrilled to have a "Turner" painting in Framlingham, and just in the nick of time as Miss Turner leaves us to go on to Teacher Training.
Thank you to all concerned - The school Council tell us - "We are just thrilled" "It is fantastic, amazing!"

Sports Day 2019

Under the blue Suffolk skies on a balmy mid-July day, Sir Robert Hitcham's CEVAP School celebrated the success of its sports day yesterday.  Key Stage 2 completed a close but well fought out sports day in the morning whilst  Key Stage 1 enjoyed the pace of their races throughout the afternoon.  Parents, grandparents, family and friends enjoyed both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 1 sports events and it was a great family atmosphere as the children ate their picnics with their respective families.

Well done to Bulstrode house for their sterling efforts to win the overall day but congratulations to Hitchams, Mills and Howard whose determination never failed in their attempts to compete on the day.  The staff were particularly thrilled with the great sportsmanship that all the children showed to each other and to their peers throughout the day.

A truly successful and enjoyable day  - so well organised by Mr Peck and Mrs Cockle, who set the field up with a team of volunteers the night before.  It looked fabulous!   Thank you to "The Friends" for their support on the day, manning stalls, sound systems, handing out much needed ice-pops and for those who helped dismantle gazebos and tidy up the field afterwards

Thank you to everyone - staff, family and friends for their support throughout the day.

Class JC bring on the "Good Times"

Mrs Colchester shared her final class assembly with the school.  Class JC retold the story of the Pentecost.  The class shared their thoughts and ideas about what they have enjoyed over their year in Class JC.

They then shared their worries for the future which were written on balloons and were then released, signifying letting go of their worries.

The balloons being released symbolising the worries disappearing.

The assembly finished with an amazing dance routine to "Good Times" - not only the children had learnt it but they were also joined by Mrs Colchester and Mr Peck.

She's Behind You!!! Cinderella & Rockerfella Review

Our Cinderella & Rockerfella production went down an absolute storm at the Framlingham College Theatre.
A truly wonderful performance from the Year 6 of 2019. A display of confidence, enthusiasm and fun from every pupil that took part.
Set against an incredible backdrop, provided by families from the school, the children sang beautifully and acted confidently.
There were many standout performances, including parts that allowed all pupils to shine with the many talents that they have, from playing musical instruments, to dance, to gym, as well as singing and acting.
The children were engaged, focused and worked as a team to produce an amazing performance, to a theatre packed with a very proud audience.
There was a real sense of celebration of how far the children have developed during their time at Sir Robert Hitchams and an overwhelming feeling of happiness and achievement from all that took part.
A very well done to everyone that played their part in making this year’s performance a huge success. What a talented group of performers - well done to you all!
Special thanks go to all the staff and parents who worked so hard to deliver this amazing production
There are lots more photos on the Website gallery.

Class LH zoom off with their vehicles!

Following on from sketching the vehicles on the playground on Monday, Class LH have also discussed what vehicles are used for - ie transporting goods or people.  We then examined a variety of vehicles and talked abut the wheels, the lights, doors etc and how they were good for their purpose.

We have designed our own vehicles and using a range of resources created our own vehicles.  We have a range of cars, army tanks, caravans, buses, aeroplanes, lorries and vans.

Using the plan to work our the wheel base for the army tank.

Problem solving - the axles were quite tight for the wheels to be pushed on so had to adapt the wheels.

Sharing resources and teamwork.

Army tank and a caravan, complete with convertible bed and pillows!

Cargo lorry and a bus.

We used our plans to help us and have thought about what we would do differently next time.

Year 6 Production

Did you catch the Year 6 show yesterday?
Last performance of Cinderella and Rockerfella takes place tonight.

Key Stage 1 - sketching cars

This afternoon Class JC, Class LH and Class CMC had the opportunity of sketching a range of cars - a small hatchback, a sports car and 4 x 4.  The idea was to look at the features of the vehicles in preparation for designing their own vehicles which we will be making in DT.  All the children were able to have the opportunity of sketching all the cars from a variety of angles.

The children noted the makes and models of the cars too.  We also talked about the parts of the vehicles and where and how they were positioned on the cars.
