'Movers and Shakers' head to the Church

As part of our new topic, Movers and Shakers, Year 2 are finding out about significant people through history and the impact that they have had on our lives.

We started off the topic studying Sir Robert Hitcham, who was very important and a significant local person as the impact of his donations and work is still seen in the town today.   We found out about his generosity and the charitable donations he made to our town of Framlingham.  We have been able to look at the Almshouses, which were built from the bricks inside the Castle that he owned at the time, he left money for a poor house to be built inside the castle and we talked about our school and how he originally set it up for poor boys.

We now understand how he wanted to help poor people and enrich their lives with better living and a better education.

We have today visited the church to see his tomb and talk about his life in more detail.
