Christening - KS1

On Friday afternoon the whole of KS1 went to the church for a Christening experience.

We were greeted at the door by Rev Chris Davey who led us all into the church. The ‘parents, Godparents and siblings’ were seated in the front pew while other family members sat behind. Rev Chris then took us through everything that would happen in a real Christening. The anointing with oil, the prayer and the promise of the God parents.

All the congregation were then invited around the font to see the water being made Holy and the baby having the Holy water poured over her head. The Ks1  baby was Christened Poppy Blossom.

The Godparents were then given a candle to show that they would lead Poppy Blossom in the light of the world and follow the teachings of Jesus.

Hola from Class JA

The  European Morning of Languages was celebrated in style with a fiesta to round off the class' learning about Spain. After a few renditions of  The Macarena and some rather enthusiastic dancing to Spanish disco music, the children enjoyed Spanish style fruit punch with an 'garnish' of mocktail umbrellas, Spanish crispbreads tapas with chorizo, Manchego style cheese and  a mild chilli, red pepper and tomato sauce. Some children bravely tried Spanish olives and a few liked them  and requested more.

Overall, we were very impressed with the class' learning and their enthusiasm when pronouncing some Spanish words and phrases, investigating Picasso and creating artwork in his style. The children's recall of their learning in a quiz was really impressive and this included remembering the location of some Spanish cities, climate information and more.

Bien hecho todos! (Well done everybody!).

Class KV tour of Europe

As part of European Languages Day, Class KV set off on a tour of Europe.  We visited  6 European countries:- Finland, Spain, Italy, Ukraine, Greece and France.  As geographers, we found out about their culture, listened to the national anthems, looked at their flags and talked about the length of a typical school day and the age that they start.  We examined a typical menu from their country and then sampled some of the typical foods from these countries.  The beetroot borscht from Ukraine was not popular but the Greek yoghurt went down very well!  Lots of children tried new foods which was great and there were lots of comments about the texture, the bitterness and the sweetness.

The children then voted for the country that they would like to live in!! The favourite country was Greece – due to the fact that they only went to school for either the morning (8.15am – 1.30pm) or the afternoon  (2.00 – 7.00pm) and they loved the Greek yoghurt with blueberries!

Howard House assembly

This morning the Howard House captains and vice house captains lead the whole school assembly telling us about the Howard family and their strong connections to the Framlingham Castle.

Well done on sharing lots of facts about the family.

The Netherlands - Class CRMBr

To celebrate European lang day class CRMBr had a visit from Mrs Jenkins who told us all about what it was like growing up in the Netherlands.

We found Holland and its capital, Amsterdam, on a map of Europe. It’s very small.

We learnt about Holland being famous for cheese, waffles, tulips, liquorice and windmills. We looked at the wooden clogs the children would have worn and some of us tried them on – they were very comfortable.

Mrs Jenkins taught us to sing head, shoulders, knees and toes in Dutch- that made us laugh. We learnt to count to 5 – een, twee ,drie, vier, vyf.

Finally we got to try the lovely cheeses, biscuit waffles and liquorice sweets.

Thank you Mrs Jenkins.

Favourites Menu - Special LUNCH - Thursday 3 October

VEGETARIAN SAUSAGE OPTION WILL OF COURSE BE AVAILABLE TOO!

RJKH celebrated European Day of Languages with a Spanish fiesta!

RJKH have had the most amazing morning singing in Spanish, making and eating churros and then doing Cubist Picasso-themed artwork. We hope they come home and tell you all about the fun they've had!

Exciting European Learning

Wow! - what a morning we have all had.

We started off with an assembly to celebrate our special day.  Thank you  to Mrs Jones' class for sharing a Spanish prayer through song which was fantastic.  Mrs Jenkins then treated us to a rendition of The Hungry Caterpillar which she read in Dutch as she was born in the Netherlands.  We were all able to follow this well known story and some of the words like, 'lollypop' were the same in English and Dutch.

There has been a real buzz of excitement around the school and it has been marvellous to hear so many European languages being spoken, to taste European food from churros and tapas to croissants and Italian style food.  The teachers and children have been so creative in their approach to the learning.

During playtime, we heard comments from the children about the fun way that they were learning and how much they enjoyed learning new information through dance, art, music, maps and spoken language.

The countries studied were: France, Holland, Italy, Poland, Malta, Denmark and Spain and the teachers all had special reasons why they thought their class would love to learn about their chosen country. One of the teachers reminded us that Denmark was the birthplace of Lego......... Need we say More ?!

Thank you to the catering team for their special, European inspired lunch. The smell of the meal being prepared was delicious as it wafted around the school.

Super Learning in Nursery

Nursery have all settled so well and have been doing some brilliant learning. We have enjoyed music in the ark, PE on the field and in the hall and we had a wonderful first session in Robin Wood. The children have picked up routines quickly and are enjoying all the resources we have in nursery. Cars are a firm favourite as well as the water tray and painting. We have been builders, pilots, mums, dads, knights, artists and geographers. Recently we have been focusing on parts of plants and have enjoyed exploring sunflowers with tweezers and magnifying glasses. We are super proud of how well they are all doing. Here are a few pictures of what we've been up to.

Intergalactic Art in MS

Following on from our inspirational wonderdome experience, we created some intergalactic art. We looked at the vibrant colours and detail in the work of artist Dave Archer and then created our own artwork in his style.
