Class JT British Science Week

With it being ‘British Science Week,’ Class JT have been busy little scientists. The children have conducted experiments to see which is the best solution to clean coins as well as seeing which coins are magnetic. They have made foil boats and estimated how many coins might make a boat sink before finding out for themselves. One child from the class brought in some Coca cola and Mentos sweets for the science fair. She showed us what the reaction would be if they were mixed together. The class were amazed at what they saw. The scientist conducting the experiment explained to the class the reasons for the reaction. Finally, the children made a wormery on their visit to ‘Robin Wood’ and will be observing the changes over time.

Guide Dog Visit

A wonderful start to the morning for our children as we welcomed a representative of the Guide Dog Association with her current and her retired guide dogs - Topper & Lizzie.

The children enjoyed hearing about the dogs and the training, and learnt how they assist their companion.

We are very happy to accept any online donations for 'The Guide Dog Association' through ParentMail for those families who didn't have money to send in with your child today - please make any payment by Monday of you wish to, thank you.

We hope you enjoy looking at these lovely photos of Lizzie (left) & Topper (right)!

This week in MS

This week in MS we have been busy with a range of exciting activities and experiences.

On Monday we welcomed parents, grandparents and adults into the classroom for our share session when we created board games based on our topic 'Rocks Relics & Rumbles'. "It was very fun because got to work with our parents and we could share what we had learnt.

We created a version of our digestive system using a fork, beans, bread, water, coke, paper cups, tights and a jug. "It was fun but a little disgusting."

We have continued developing our swimming skills with some of us needing to wear our pyjamas in the pool! "Swimming in pyjamas was harder as they absorbed some of the water making them heavier. But it was still fun."

Finally, we learnt about the Christ the King statue in RE. We learnt that it was 33 metres tall which is equivalent to 3/4 of our front playground and approximately 27 and a half children laying head to foot.

Class KN and the Digestive System

In Class KN we have been learning about the Digestive System. We used equipment to create different parts of our digestive system.  The children had so much fun and now have a good understanding of how our digestive system works.

Glowing Event!

The School Discos on Friday were a glowing success!

The Friends did an amazing job, as always, setting up a superb environment for the children to enjoy a great time.

Huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the night - without your support the children would not be able to have all these wonderful extra experiences.

Learning in Class VW

A couple of weeks ago, the children in Class VW took part in a debate as part of their RE learning on Hinduism. They learned about the dilemma posed by Shambo the bull, who became the centre of a controversial issue after testing positive for Bovine TB. Shambo had been living at the Skanda Vale temple in Wales, and his case raised many difficult questions for Hindus, farmers, and veterinary professionals. The Hindu community believed that he was sacred animal.

The children took on different viewpoints during the debate, representing groups such as DEFRA, Jay Lakhani, Michael Morpurgo, the Court of Human Rights, vets, and other professionals. They researched their allocated viewpoints thoroughly and debated the issue with great enthusiasm. The case of Shambo, which led to his slaughter in 2007, sparked important discussions on ethics, religion, and animal welfare.

On Thursday afternoon, Year 6 opened their classroom doors to parents to share our maths teaching strategies. It was wonderful to see so many parents attending and engaging with the content.

Library Art Exhibition - Creative for Climate Justice - KS2

For those of you that didn't manage to get to the Library last weekend for our Reception, Nursery & Key Stage 1 Art Exhibition do try to pop in this weekend to see our Key Stage 2 work.

It's all set up & ready to go for tomorrow.

It's all about the letters!!

Kate Rolfe, author and illustrator, visited this morning and shared her book “Wiggling Words” which she has written and also illustrated using the letters of the alphabet.   She read the book to the children and answered a Q&A session with some very inspirational and thought-provoking questions.  The children were then given a chance to have a go at using just the letters of the alphabet to draw a range of animals.  We all started with a cat using 'v, o, w, i and c'.    Lots of other animals were being drawn.  Kate will use the children’s ideas to create a gallery next Saturday 22nd March in Framlingham.

Fun and learning in RJKH

RJKH have been having a great time in all their learning over the past few weeks. From learning directions in French outdoor in the playground to acting out a nature story as a volcano in English, we have enjoyed a variety of practical lessons. On World Book Day last week, we wrote short stories, read with Class KM, designed book covers and role played as the characters we were dressed as.
We hope that you enjoy the photos and hope to see you next Tuesday at our share session!

British Libraries Live Lesson on Global Tales of Nature

Last week Class KN took part in the British Libraries Live Lesson on Global Tales of Nature, as part of celebrating World Book Day. This featured the amazing children's author and storyteller Michael Rosen, as well as other storytellers Sandra A Agard and Emily Hanna Grazebrook. They told us engaging tales and offered prompts for children to start penning their own stories. The children then took part in a live draw-along with illustrator Allen Fatimaharan and he gave the children tips on how to illustrate their stories.

Here are some of the children’s work following the live draw along session. They all did some great drawings!
