SCHOLASTIC BOOK LEAFLET – deadline for orders Friday 21 January
With this letter is the Scholastic leaflet, the deadline for orders is THIS FRIDAY. We CANNOT accept cash for this, only cheques payable to ‘Scholastic Ltd’ or please use the credit card part of the order form.

UNWELL CHILDRENWe appear to be experiencing a very high volume of illness at school especially with high temperatures. We ask that parents do not send their children to school if they are unwell, as our policy is to send any child home who has a temperature over 100˚c/38.4˚f. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

ORCHESTRAMrs Fell who runs our school orchestra, has spaces for KS2 children, both instrumentalists and percussion, and for KS1 children who already have lessons on an instrument. The children should bring their instruments to the next orchestra session (Wednesday lunchtime in the upstairs activity area). For further details, or to find out about fees, contact Mrs Fell directly on 07768 986 014.

MOTHERS’ DAY LUNCHESWe will be running 3 ‘bring your mum to lunch’ dates at the end of term, the dates are 31 March, 4 and 7 April. Letters will be sent out in March.

HOLIDAY REQUESTS AND ABSENCES
The school will not authorise absence:
• If no explanation is received from parents
• For looking after siblings, shopping trips, unexceptional special occasions, eg birthdays
• For family holidays longer than the duration originally authorised by the Headteacher. (See below)
• For family holidays where prior permission was not sought or was refused. (See below)
• For family holidays during the first week of the new academic year
• The Headteacher will not to approve absence if the timing of the holiday coincides with SATs.
Can we take family holidays during term-time?
Family holidays should be taken during school holidays. If, in exceptional circumstances, you need to request permission for your child to accompany you on a family holiday during term time, you should complete a ‘Leave of Absence’ application form at least three weeks in advance.
Please ensure you have written a full explanation why you are requesting an absence during term time. Permission for an absence exceeding two weeks (in any one year) will be granted only in exceptional circumstances. The Head teacher has the right to refuse permission having given consideration to your request and your child’s age, the time of year and the overall attendance pattern of your child.

DO YOU WORK IN THE ARMED FORCES? PLEASE TELL US
As part of our annual Census the Government are now asking for the number of parents working in the armed forces. Please can you let the office know by Thursday 20 January? Thank you.
