During the week of 16 January, the children will be looking at the cross-curricular links with mathematics and developing their enthusiasm for the subject.
For
this, classes might look at mathematicians who have made a contribution and
conduct mini- investigations. For instance, they might cost out a school trip
and write a persuasive letter, investigate tangrams, investigate patterns on
nature, read books around numbers. Children might investigate tessellating art,
or research historical number systems. Additionally, they might look at famous
mathematicians who have shaped history.
The purpose is to provide the children with positive experiences and to see that maths really is everywhere! We hope to have an assembly at the end of the week whereby children will share their learning with the rest of the school.
