Years 1 – 6 enjoyed their First Aid workshops which have been kindly funded by “The Friends”.
The sessions started with finding out what “First Aid” means and going through what is in a First Aid box and how to use the items. After which, there was a demonstration of an oximeter to measure the pulse and oxygen.
The children were taught what to do in an emergency when they find someone unwell and how to use the acronym “DR ABC” to help when they first find someone who is unwell. Maybe ask your children what the letters stand? (“Dr ABC” – Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation)
The children were also taught the basic resuscitation to the beat of “Staying Alive” and when to use it. A role play situation of ringing 999 and what to do in an emergency was then shared. This helped the children to remember what to say if they found someone unwell. The children also practiced the recovery position, and when to use this alongside practicing the techniques for CPR.
Thank you so much to "The Friends" of the school for funding these
valuable workshops which have been brilliant in making the children aware of what
to do in an emergency.
