Scientist of the Week!

Congratulations and well done to our new SRH Scientist of the Week for correctly answering the question – “Do pigeons sweat?”

The answer to the question is that as pigeons are birds, they do not have sweat glands. Their body temperatures are generally higher than that of most mammals and so they did not have the need to develop sweat glands in the same way we have. To lose heat they raise their down feathers to cool down through ventilation. Unlike most mammals, cats, whales and rodents do not have sweat glands.

This week’s question is “How many hamsters would it take to power the world?”
