Year 1 RE Day

As part of our Year 1 RE topic, we have been looking at belonging. The children have been learning about Christianity and the importance of belonging by being welcomed in to the church family through baptism, or within their own families and our own school family at Sir Robert Hicham’s.

Class JT and KH have roll played baptisms with ‘little baby Annabel/Jamie’ and enjoyed making cakes to celebrate the happy affair. This topic has provided the children with many cross curricular opportunities including drama, cookery, art, RE, and PSHE. As you can see from the photographs, the children really enjoyed their learning and the opportunities this topic provided. A special thank you to the parents who provided items which supported us with this topic.

Katie in JT said “Today, I had the best day ever!”

Framlingham Sound and Light Spectacular Competition

Well done to Year 6 and the lovely artwork they have entered in to the ‘Framlingham Sound and Light Spectacular’ competition. The children were given four themes to work within which included light and dark, myths and reality, protection and persecution and the castle of the future. They could work in a media of their own choice. Any winning entries will be displayed through images projected on the castle walls at the Framlingham event in November.

Good luck Year 6

Here are some of the entries

Busy, busy, busy in Class LH.

This week has been very busy and we have used all sorts of skills to enhance our topic “Street Detectives”.  We have experienced lots of problem solving; learnt some interesting facts and had an enjoyable time sharing our learning.

As mathematicians, we have taken a traffic survey of vehicles passing the school and then put this data into pictograms and answered questions about our own findings.

As writers, we have written diary entries about the trip to the church for Harvest assembly and then we wrote a diary entry from the point of view of ‘The Troll’ underneath the bridge when the Billy Goats Gruff trip-trapped over it using lots of emotion to express our feelings.

As designers, we found out about mechanisms in moving pictures and created a short story book each about the three Billy Goats Gruff using pivots, levers, sliders and wheel mechanisms.  After we made our pictures, Class KM came to visit and we retold and shared our stories with them using the mechanisms to bring the books to life.

As story tellers, we used these story books to retell the story to our parents and family at our wonderful share session where we also enjoyed sharing a variety of other books.  There was a real buzz in the classroom and thank you to all the parents and family that came and enjoyed sharing these special times with the children.

As artists, we have been finding out about the life of the British Artist, Ian Cook and recreated artwork in his style using toy cars and their wheels in the paint – no paintbrushes were used for these!!  We loved using the wheels and were very proud of our work. Thank you to Mrs Lucas who guided us through this process.

As scientists, we have taken part in the STEM challenge which was to create a paper aeroplane and to find out which one travelled the furthest.  This was great fun but a bit tricky too!  We tried out lots of different designs and we then went outside to try them out.

A really enjoyable and busy week in Class LH.

STEM Challenge in Recycle Week

Today, the children have taken part in a STEM Challenge

In assembly, Miss Whipps announced the task:  to create a paper airplane out of A4 paper which was capable of flying the longest distance.

Additionally, this ties in with ‘Recycle Week’, hence why we attempted to be as sustainable as possible by only using accumulated scrap paper.

KS1 and Reception are completing this in class, whereas KS2  got together in their Houses to collaborate and create an airplane.

Children learnt about the forces acting on the plane such as thrust, drag and gravity, as well as investigating the best launching technique.

Lots of fun was had, as well as developing ‘Trial and Error’ strategies.

After break, the results for KS2 were announced in assembly by Mrs Brown and Miss Whipps, with Mills ultimately victorious and securing the STEM Trophy for this academic year. House captains supported their House, which proved highly successful.

Reverend Vipond Assembly

We were delighted again to welcome Rev'd Vipond to our Visitor Worship this morning on our last day of half term, the children always enjoy the stories he shares with them.

After Mrs Picton awarded the House Cup for the week and we celebrated birthdays for some of the children, Rev'd Vipond entertained the children with his stories.

He spoke about a local lady living in the Alms Houses who turns 100 today who  previously served in the Royal Navy, this led his story to Trafalgar Day and Lord Nelson. He finished the assembly with a wonderful story from 100 Acre Wood about Pooh & Piglet.

Share Session in Class AJ

This afternoon class AJ had their share session and the children performed a dance piece to their parents which they had been working on for the last 4 weeks in their PE lessons.

The dance depicted life in the trenches which is linked to their World War I topic. As part of the routine the children had to include cannon, unison, travel and at least 4 phases.

Once they performed their dances to their parents, they then were set the task of teaching their routine to them.  This was a huge success and each group were able to brilliantly perform their routine with their parents at the end of the session!

A huge thank you to all the parents who came along and threw themselves into the session - it was greatly appreciated by all of the children.

It was lovely to see everybody having so much fun and being so engaged.

Thank you!!

Clarinets in Class KVRH

Every Tuesday Mr Kershaw from the County Music Service delivers whole class Clarinet tuition to all our Year 3 children.

Each week the children will learn new skills from reading music, understanding rhythm, forming notes on their clarinets and ways to breath and deliver perfect notes.

The children are given their own clarinet to keep for the year, and with these ongoing lessons and regular practice at home, many of these children will be inspired to continue with this instrument or with other music tuition in school.
