STEM Challenge in Recycle Week

Today, the children have taken part in a STEM Challenge

In assembly, Miss Whipps announced the task:  to create a paper airplane out of A4 paper which was capable of flying the longest distance.

Additionally, this ties in with ‘Recycle Week’, hence why we attempted to be as sustainable as possible by only using accumulated scrap paper.

KS1 and Reception are completing this in class, whereas KS2  got together in their Houses to collaborate and create an airplane.

Children learnt about the forces acting on the plane such as thrust, drag and gravity, as well as investigating the best launching technique.

Lots of fun was had, as well as developing ‘Trial and Error’ strategies.

After break, the results for KS2 were announced in assembly by Mrs Brown and Miss Whipps, with Mills ultimately victorious and securing the STEM Trophy for this academic year. House captains supported their House, which proved highly successful.
