Scientist of the Week!

Congratulations and well done to our new SRH Scientist of the Week for correctly answering the question – “Why do some people get freckles when it’s sunny?”

The answer to the question is freckles are circular versions of a suntan and are called ephelis. If you are prone to freckles, melanin will be produced in the pigment cells of your skin. This is a protective mechanism to act as a natural ‘sunblock’ layer to prevent damage from harmful rays.

This week’s question is “Why don’t penguins’ feet freeze?”
