Science Week in Class JT

This week during ‘Science Week’ the children in Class JT have enjoyed taking part in lots of different experiments. They have looked at eggs and recorded the changes to the shells after 3 days. One egg was placed in vinegar, one in coke, one in coffee and a final one in coke after having being brushed with a layer of toothpaste. The shell of an egg is similar to the enamel on a tooth, so the results were interesting. It definitely made the children more aware of the importance of cleaning their teeth!

The children also recorded what happened to coloured sweets when warm water was poured over them, dissolving the coatings.

Time challenges were also completed, which were great fun. The children counted how may star jumps they could complete in twenty seconds, how many cups of water they could pour in a bucket in thirty seconds, how many leaves they could collect in forty-five seconds, how many twigs they could collect in two minutes and finally the hardest, could they stay silent for one whole minute?

To end the day on Friday the children took part in a STEM Challenge. Class JT decided to build ST Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow, Russia out of cardboard rolls as well as ‘The Carabanchel’ apartment building in Madrid, Spain out of Lego, multi-link and counters. The Carabanchel is a modern, brightly coloured building inspired by the work of the artist Paul Klee.
